Coffee at Square Beans

When Kelli and Walt Geminn moved to Collierville they thought a coffee shop would be a “good fit” for the town’s historic square.

“And we kept hoping somebody would do it,” Kelli jokes.

The Geminns opened Square Beans, on the west side of the town square, a year ago March, and it is, indeed, a good fit.

The place is comfortable but not cramped. There are café tables and armchairs, the art on the wall is by local artists. One of those “leg” lamps, so prominent in A Christmas Story, was brought in just for that holiday (rather than a tree), and it remains as a beacon in the window.

The coffee is single-sourced and is bought from micro-roaster out-of-state. The selection changes weekly. (Yesterday, it was a deep and dark brew from Tanzania.) There’s a full menu of espresso drinks and non-coffee drinks, such as Mexican hot chocolate and caramel apple cider.

Square Beans also has a bakery case full of tantalizing house-made cookies and brownies and cakes from Sugaree’s.

And one more thing: Square Beans serves lunch … pimento cheese, black forest ham and Swiss, roast beef and Provolone all served on fococcia bread.

“We’d really like to get the word out,” Kelli says. “We’re more than just coffee.”

Square Beans is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

I love Square Beans, it's a great place to relax, drink great coffee, and have a bite to eat. To all you people who like hanging out at Starbucks, and looking out to the traffic on Poplar: THIS PLACE IS MUCH COOLER!

I love going to Square Beans and enjoying a quiet lunch. It is a great place to relax and look out at the beautiful Town Square. Kelli has some of the best hospitality around. Great food and be sure to try the Quiche.

Best sandwiches in Shelby County and the coffee to match. Nothing beats a winter morning and a cup of hot caramel apple cider! Starbucks can suck it!

Square Beans is a don't miss! Don't be fooled by the name though, because they are way more than just coffee.. The chicken salad alone is worth the trip, and don't get me started on the smoothies. The cozy, relaxing atmosphere makes you want to stay all day.. So when deciding where to go for lunch.... turn your car off of Poplar for a change and visit Square Beans... You will not be disappointed :)

I wish this was in East Memphis or Midtown or better yet I wish the leg lamp would get kidnapped and moved to Republic Coffee!
