Lunch at Fuel

Posted by Susan Ellis on Wed, Feb 17, 2010 at 3:10 PM

Back in December, the Flyer ran a feature about Petra relocating down the street, and Fuel moving into the site at 1761 Madison.

Fuel opened for business about a week ago, and today we stopped by to check it out.

The siren call of bison could not be resisted. Above is the Fuel Bison Burger served with hand-cut fries. (Bison-philes can also get their fix via the buffalo chili offered on the lunch menu.)

The smoked salmon and white fish cakes were made with potato, capers, red onion, and lemon. Fancy!

Here's the vegetarian burger, made in-house. Other vegetarian dishes on the lunch menu: cheese plate, vegetarian soup of the day, and a quiche of the day.

So, was it good? How much did it cost? Did they serve beer or wine? How 'bout some useful info rather than just an ad for the place.

I had the vegetarian burger, and it was very good. My lunchmates enjoyed their dishes as well.

Overall, I found the menu to be very thoughtful.

My burger was $6.50. The most expensive item on the lunch menu was $11, which I believe was for a salad with salmon.

Not sure about the beer and wine.

I love FUEL. It's nice to have this new restaurant in the neighborhood. I love the menu!

Are they open for dinner?

I have to agree with AliasElias - not very descriptive at ALL! The cheese on the burger doesn't even look melted. Were the fries hot and crispy? The menu was "thoughtful" - what does that mean? Do they serve alcohol or is it a BYOB - not sure? What are you trying to do here other than let us know it is open. Hey, thanks for the commercial!!!

Ok, Right now, we are BYOB. We are in the process of getting our beer license and will provide stem ware for wine. In the meantime, please bring beer/wine. We can keep it cold for you etc...
Yes, we serve dinner. Our most expensive item it the 1 lb. grass fed lamb shank. We also have Springer Mountain Farms chicken, bison, grass fed ribeye, wild caught domestic shrimp and several vegetarian items, including a a hearty cheese walnut loaf. We also cater to vegan diets. Don't want anyone feeling cheated!
We are having a difficult time with our phone right now so please use our alternate # (901) 730-1916 for any questions you may have, to dine in or take away.
We are really excited to be open and welcome your feedback, good and bad. That's how we know what we're doing right and what needs change!!!

That's the way to take charge Fuel! Thanks for the info. I suggest these complainer peeps, just get themselves up and out of their chairs, away from their computers and show up for a taste. It is delicious!!! :))))

Hopefully this place will improve with time. The entire staff appeared brand new and even acquiring water proved difficult. They have a good idea but poor execution.

Went last night at 9 pm with a party of 14. We had a great time, and probably sampled everything on the menu. No complaints from anybody. All the food was very tasty and reasonably priced. The staff was genial and helpful. My chicken-fried buffalo steak was scrumptious, with real mashed taters. It's byob for another three weeks, I believe.
