Angela Woods of Girl Scouts Heart of the South Talks Cookies

Posted By on Wed, Feb 24, 2010 at 5:09 PM

Angela Woods started as CEO of Girl Scouts Heart of the South on January 15th — just in time for cookie season. She took the time to answer a few questions for Hungry Memphis.

I'm picturing you in your office right now surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of boxes of cookies. Please confirm.
Girl Scout Cookies are back! They were delivered this morning and our office does look like a cookie warehouse. Girl Scout Troops are busy picking up cookies for those who pre-ordered their cookies in January.

There's a new cookie this year, "Thank U Berry Munch." Any good?
Made with premium cranberries that provide a delightful tartness, Thank U Berry Munch cookies are sweetened with creamy, white fudge chips while delivering much gratitude and a satisfying crunch. This is a very good cookie; I predict it being a top seller.

Do you have a certain approach to motivating the girls to sell? Do you own Glengarry Glen Ross on DVD?
No, good movie, though. I also like Troop Beverly Hills.

We use fun and exciting activities focused on the girls to motivate them as well as offer cookie training to our dedicated adult volunteers. The Girl Scout Cookie sale is much more than delicious treats and fund-raising.The Girl Scout Cookie program is a fun tradition and hands-on leadership and entrepreneurial program unlike any other in the world. Many successful business women and community leaders say they got their start selling Girl Scout Cookies. The girls learn five key skills: Goal Setting, Decision Making, Money Management, People Skills, and Business Ethics.

Samoa or Thin Mint?
Samoas — vanilla cookies coated in caramel, sprinkled with toasted coconut and drizzled with chocolate — is the number-one cookie of choice in this area. Both Samoas and Thin Mints are our top selling cookies. My favorite cookie, though, is the Lemon Chalet Cremes.

I don't know any Girl Scouts. Can you hook me up with some cookies?
This weekend we’ll kick off Cookie Booth Sales. Girl Scouts will be out in full force at locations such as Wal-Mart, Lowe’s, Kroger, and Blockbuster Video selling all of your favorite Girl Scout Cookies. Also, you can log onto our website,, and click on the Cookie Locator to find cookies near you. Booth sales end March 21st, so get your Girl Scout Cookies before they're gone.
