Today, Pam Denney and I stopped by Holy Cow, the small kosher restaurant in the lobby of the Memphis Jewish Community Center.
The menu at Holy Cow, which is run by the owners of Bach's Lunch, includes breakfast, and a number of smoothies and a few dessert items.
The lunch menu features a "build your own sandwich" option with a number of bread choices (bagel, challah, pita, among them), condiments (horseradish mayo, spicy pepper spread, yellow mustard), and meats (smoked turkey, beef salami, chopped liver).
"The Dog Pound" is the hot-section of the menu, which includes the El-Dog (hummus, Israeli salad, and shug) and the Southern Slaw Dog (slaw, onion, 1000 Island) as well as well as your less exotic dog fare.
Pam opted for the chicken salad sandwich, and I went for the egg salad sandwich. As part of the combo deal, we both got the split pea soup.
The soup, which is rich and just the right consistency, is worth a visit alone.
Plus, starting April 11th, Holy Cow will serve sushi.
Prices range from around $3.50 to $7.
