I go to Frank's Deli at least once a week to pick up an egg-salad sandwich, but it was only recently that I noticed their eclectic soda selections.
Among the options: grape Crush.
They also offer Mexican Cokes and Sprites made with cane sugar instead of HFCS. Another offering is Schweppes ginger ale in a can.
I picked up a grapefruit Jarritos, though I strongly considered trying the watermelon. Maybe next time. (I've seen Jarritos at Viet Hoa and the Kroger on Kirby as well.)
Prices range from .99 to $1.79.
This Tasty Southern Delight pound cake at Miss Cordelia's looks like a hot mess, but it is indeed delightful.
An employee told me that Miss Cordelia's owner Henry Turley (also part owner of the Flyer's parent company ... holla!) brought them in and said they were made by his cousin. This is the sort of nepotism I can get behind.
A small cake will set you back $5.99.
Last Friday at the Kroger on Kirby, I spotted a freezer with deeply discounted, discontinued items. There were bags of microwaveable brown rice for about a buck apiece and Soy Dream and Rice Dream ice creams around $1.50.
This Men's Bread from French Meadow was also included. It's "sprouted wheat bread with organic sesame, pumpkin, and sunflower seeds with added soy isoflavones to cover men's nutritional bases." (French Meadow also makes a Women's Bread.)
I'm all about the isoflavones, though I'm not familiar with the French Meadow line. Co-worker Bianca Phillips said they tend to be pricey, around $8. These were going for $1.50.
