"So, this is the part where I fold the slice in half, take a bite, and burn my mouth and chin with the cheese and sauce?" I asked when the New York-style pizza arrived.
"That's pretty much it," Hannah said.
And with that out of the way, we tucked into our lunches at the newly opened Joey's New York Deli & Pizzeria on North Main.
It's a small but cute spot, with checkered floors and chrome and padded stools lining a window with a view of the Main Street mall. There's also some seating on the second floor.
As for the cheese pizza (which I ate with a fork and knife), it was spot-on and I definitely want to try the veggie pizza. (Slice: $3.50; whole pizza: $22.68)
That was pretty much it as far as vegetarian options go, besides a couple of salads. The deli side, however, is quite generous.
I commanded that Hannah order The Lady (turkey breast and corned beef on rye with spicy mustard, sauerkraut, field greens, and tomatoes, $8.68). She opted for the more simple turkey sandwich with mustard on a hoagie ($6.95). It came with German-style potato casserole as a side.
Other menu items: Oyster and catfish po-boys; Reuben; Weiner schnitzel; and beef brisket with mushroom sauce ($5.40-$9.77). Joey's also serves breakfast. ($1.95-$4.75)
Joey's is open 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
