Country Fried Steak and Food Snobbery

Posted by on Mon, Jul 19, 2010 at 1:25 PM

I have a coworker who has issues with country fried steak.

This is interesting to me because I've seen this person indulge in a hamburger steak now and then, and I consider that dish to be in the same family.

But I think in this person's case, it has to do with the battering and frying involved in country fried steak. It's excessive.

In any case, a recent lunch at the Arcade would have sent him over the edge.

Make that lunches ... as two coworkers ordered the same (and monochromatic!) lunch: country fried steak, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, accompanied by cornbread and banana pudding.

In regards to food snobbery, I have a friend who won't let American cheese into her house. My own include microwave popcorn and desserts with marshmallows. I also had to keep myself from gagging when a friend brought what I thought to be a particularly tacky snack to a party: Bugles with spray cheese.

What are your culinary bêtes noires?
