Among epic tales, how the Snowden Beer Festival came to be is not one of them. According to Floyd Benson of Green Machine Entertainment, which manages Snowden Grove Amphitheater, “We were looking for other things to do at the venue. [The boss] Jim Green said, ‘Do a beer festival.’”

And so they will on Saturday, August 7th, from 2 to 6 p.m.

The festival, itself, is also nothing but straightforward. There will be food from area restaurants and live music by the Perfect Vessels and the Cody Dickinson Project, but it’s really all about the beer.

Participants, 21-and-up, buy a wristband and pick up a souvenir glass for unlimited amounts of the 77 types of beer that will be available. (“We say ‘unlimited,’” Benson says, “but there is the expectation that they drink responsibly.”) The main sponsor is Mississippi brewery Lazy Magnolia, which will offer its Southern Pecan, Indian Summer, and Reb Ale. Among the other beers: several from Abita, Flying Dog, and Sam Adams; a pair of Ghost River ales; Coors Light; Paulaner; Newcastle; Red Stripe; Smithwicks; Fosters; Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat; and more.

“There will be something for everyone,” Benson says. “Anybody who likes beer is going to be happy.”

Snowden Beer Festival, Saturday, August 7th, 2-6 p.m., at the Snowden Grove Amphitheatre in Southaven. Tickets are $30. Organizers expect to sell out, so get your tickets early at snowdenbeerfestival.com.
