Dig out your pants with the elastic waist ... this is a big week food-wise.

• But first, give a little support for the South Memphis Farmers Market and GrowMemphis, two groups dedicated to eradicating food insecurity. On Friday, April 15th, at the University of Memphis' Rose Theatre, there's a concert benefitting both of them. There will be live music of all sorts. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. It starts at 5 p.m.

Now, let's dig in.

• I've already mentioned that the Memphis Farmers Market is opening on Saturday, April 16th, at downtown's Central Station. It opens bright and early at 7 a.m.

• Also on Saturday is the Japanese Food Festival at the Winchester Farmers Market (6616 Winchester). It runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

• In the South Main District from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday is the Southern Hot Wing Festival and Contest. Lots of hot wings, lots of live music, lots of fun.

• Surely by now, you're thirsty. The Memphis BrewFest is happening on Saturday at AutoZone Park, from 4 to 7:30 p.m. This one is dedicated to American craft beers.

• On Sunday, April 17th, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Idlewild Presbyterian Church in Midtown, GrowMemphis is holding a plant sale. I went last year and picked up pepper, okra, and melon plants and a number of herbs. I eventually let them all die, but you're not me.

• If you like crawfish, you cannot miss the annual Rajun Cajun Crawfish Festival from noon to 6 p.m. on Wagner Place downtown. There's live music, buckets of crawfish, a gumbo-cooking contest, and crawfish games. (From a story the Flyer ran for last year's event re. crawfish bobbing: "We put a pan of live crawfish in front of them, and they have to move the crawfish with their mouths from one pan to the next.")

• You should have your appetite back by Tuesday, April 19th, which will be just in time for the first Food Truck Fare. This event, on Court Square from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., is part of the Center City Commission's Downtown Alive series and is being hosted by the newly formed Beyond Barbecue. The event is being timed for the City Council vote on the food truck ordinance, and it's designed to show the possibilities of having a vibrant food truck scene. Vendors include Fuel, YoLo, the CrepeMaker, the Rolling Pit, and A Square Meal on Wheels.
