On Sunday, March 18th, Restaurant Iris is hosting a dinner celebrating Paul and Angela Knipple's fantastic new book The World in a Skillet.

The book is a series of profiles of first-generation immigrants living around the South whose cooking is both informed by their roots and their new locale.

The book contains loads of the recipes. For the dinner, Iris chef Kelly English will present his take on a handful of these recipes.

Paul Knipple shared what dishes are set to be Iris-ized ...

Lagniappe servings of mazorca and of chicken kabobs with mini micheladas all served on the bar

An amuse of crab Rangoon

Cornish hen with mole negro

A trio of related rice dishes — jollof rice, arroz con pollo, and jambalaya

Selim ba gosht — deconstructed Kurdish lamb stew

Calas with pot de creme

We will also be serving two cocktails that Angela and I created. Mine is a "zuzu" mimosa, kudzu jelly syrup and yuzu juice with champagne. Angela's is "The El Señor John T," Las Tortugas horchata with rye and dark chocolate mole bitters.

Seating for the dinner begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $60. For reservations, call 590-2828,

A portion of the proceeds will go to the Memphis Library Foundation.
