Imagine Vegan Cafe

Posted By on Wed, May 2, 2012 at 7:52 AM

On Sunday, Imagine Vegan Cafe celebrated its one-year anniversary with a buffet spread and a SRO crowd, but it was only last Thursday that I made it to the Cooper-Young restaurant myself.

Thursday's visit was prompted by Imagine's participation in Dining Out for Life -- they generously donated 50% of the day's proceeds to the Friends for Life event.

Now that I've been, I can't wait to go back.

I ordered the French Dip (pictured above; $8.99). I hadn't realized how much I missed this sandwich and its au jus. Satisfying in every sense.

Hannah ordered the Philly ($5.99), which I may have liked even better. Michael got a vegetable plate ($5.99) with greens, broccoli, and I can't remember what else.

Below is the Messy Dog ($3.99). Yes, somewhere in there is a hotdog.

All vegetarians/vegans are met with the same eye-rolling question of: If you don't eat meat, why do want to eat something that tastes like meat? As a one-time eye-roller myself, I'll say that, first of all, most faux meat products don't particularly taste like meat, and, ultimately it's a matter of substance, something one can really dig her teeth into. Salads only go so far, and Imagine Cafe offers a offers vegetarians and vegans in this city a welcomed opportunity anything -- anything at all! -- off the menu.

Like I said, I can't wait to go back.
