Proposed Post Office Closing?

Posted by Mary Cashiola on Wed, Aug 5, 2009 at 2:43 PM

In an effort to save some of the $7 billion it expects to lose this year, the U.S. Postal Service has proposed closing a number of post offices nationwide.

They're currently reviewing 3,200 branches, and ABC had a list of 700 slated for possible closures.

I know, you don't care about all that. You just me to get to it and tell you if your favorite post office is going to close.

Well, it might ... if it's Lee Finance Station.

It looks like that's the George W. Lee post office at the corner of Mississippi Blvd. and Crump. It's a little slip of a post office, really, and used to be right next to a fire station that has since been torn down. (I think. I may do a drive by a little later to confirm.)

....very strange...just this evening at the south main association meeting...Steve Cohen told us all that the post office was a governmental success! My things do change fast..why just Saturday at the Town Meeting...he used the Post Office as an example of "private" business running amok. Must be tough for Cohen to run down both sides of the street at the same time....especially when people are actually listening to his BS.

What a tragedy ,when the world has gotten to the place where we cant even keep all our post offices going. Maybe if they tried setting salaries at resonable rates and not give everyone a raise 3 times what their already making, every year, they could keep things going. Personally I would rather have a comfortable pay and a small raise every year and keep working, then make big bucks and lose my job!!!!!! People losing jobs, are the ones all screaming for the big bucks!!!!! They should be able to talk to these employees and try to make things work some how I would think!!!!!!!!!

hmmmm...give me the big bucks and then take my job......Key West here I come. re Hillbilly Kat (love the name btw...my last boat was named Kat's Rival) quote "What a tragedy ,when the world has gotten to the place where we cant even keep all our post offices going"end quote ......what the F??..... has anybody mailed a letter lately? Just flash back 80 years and substitute buggy whip manufacturer for the post office. If that doesn't get you off...try this one...the post office has a legal monopoly, doubles the price of their product at three time the rate of inflation, services fewer customers.........AND STILL LOSES MONEY!!! Yeah I want these guys in charge. I wouldn't let them in my factory to clean the toilets.

Sailorjerry, you have quite away with words!! I agee with you BUT.....I believe instead of closing post offices and putting MORE people out of work, the goverment could find away to keep them working, BECAUSE of the prices they charge for their services. And yes I agree there services are crappy. Sent pictures north, took 12 days. Not impressed!!!! If they can raise prices every year, they can keep employees workin!!!! No other way to say it. The Hillbilly kat fits me to the t. By the way, flashed backed 80 years. I think the services were better by horse and buggy. Alot faster!!!! Your picture??? I'm still tryin to figure out what I think about it!
