With few exceptions, the relationship between Mayor Willie Herenton and former Congressman Harold Ford Sr. has been stormy. The outgoing mayor related some of those difficulties to the Flyer in graphic terms. Among the candid disclosures: A near duke-out between the two in the mid-'90s; Herenton's claim that Ford, a Cohen supporter in next year's congressional election, discussed going the other way with the mayor but reneged on a meeting to clinch the deal. The mayor should save all this for his tell all bestseller book, "Misunderstood: The Life of A Political Saint".

Mayor Herenton is a realist. He says everything you think. He does all the things that "white folks" have been doing all the time. You resent him because he can, he doesn't hide it and he doesn't apologize for it.
