Monday night was a good one for debate fans, as the major-party candidates for Shelby County Mayor and Sheriff went after it and exchanged some pretty good licks. The Sheriff’s debate took place at the the Hooks Main Library on Poplar under the auspices of the League of Women Voters, while the mayoral debate, sponsored by the Cordova leadership Council, transpired almost simultaneously at Advent Presbyterian Church on Germantown Parkway.
Typical of the pre-July 4 fireworks was this exchange between interim mayor Joe Ford, the Democratic candidate, and Sheriff Mark Luttrell, the Republican candidate for mayor. The subject: Ford’s change of mind about running.
Questioner/moderator is Andrew Douglas of WMC-TV, Action News 5. The heckler between candidates' answers is Leo Awgowhat, an independent candidate for mayor.

If the only issue in this race is "changing one's mind", then there is really no substance to the opposition against Joe Ford. Joe Ford is going to win in August. The voting demographics are on his side.
And all the progress made by AC in getting SHelby County's debt situation under control will all be for naught, staple. Responsible government Ford is not about.
I wonder whether the day will ever come when we won't see the Ford name on a ballot or in a public office. I've never cared much for dynasties, of any kind (not even the Kennedys). They all have the potential to suffer from what European royalty (e.g., the Hapsburgs) eventually did.
Luttrell hidden agenda is to privatize the County Jail and the Penal Farm.
The panhandling law that was passed is a prime example of why privatizing the county Jail would be wrong. They have no money to bond out of jail so it inflates the population of the jail and the powers say " look we need a new jail, we are overcrowded so let CCC build us a new jail". I wonder how many Memphis Politicians or members of their family own stock in CCC. Wake up Memphis!!!
If an election is fair and not using corrupt means to lock in a winner before voting, i.e. corruption within the election commission and actual voting, demographics no longer mean a darn thing in Memphis.
Run it fair and the winner will win, run it like Willy H and the person who will make life miserable will win.
It seems to me that Luttrell's criticism is well founded. Ford did not just "change his mind", he broke a promise. There is, my friends, a world of difference.
If Luttrell really wants to privatize prisons, then I will be for Ford. As much as I hate that name. Private prisons are a deal breaker for me.
Luttrell spoke out AGAINST privatization of the County Jail when Commissioner Bruce Thompson was pushing it a few years back.
well juzt so everyone knowz we have no agenda we owe noone and the only reason we r dewing thiz iz to give the voterz of shelby county the oppretunity to tell ford and luttrell AwGoWhat at the same time!!!but really we r like a dog chasen karz what will we dew ifen we catch it????
Luttrell HAS privatized every aspect of 201 Poplar with the exception of the Deputies that oversee it. He WILLl do the same to the Penal Farm, There is NO PLACE for profit in a penitentiary. Luttrell also promised not to run for County Mayor and Joe Ford only reneged on his promise AFTER Luttrell did and it became obvious that no other Democrat had the wherewithal to take Luttrell on. Just sayin'.
Leo doesn't have the superpowers that an immigrant from planet Zambodia gets when they come here . . . and where is Mongo this year? I couldn't find him on the ballot anywhere. I wonder if it's a sign of the end times, hmmm.
