Family Action Council of Tennessee Supports Pro-Bullying Bill

David Fowler, president of the Family Action Council of Tennessee (FACT), blamed the December suicide of gay Ashland City teen Jacob Rogers on alcohol and drug abuse and an eating disorder, despite the fact that the teen's friends have reported that he was bullied by his peers on a daily basis because of his sexual orientation.

The Nashville Scene reported that, according to FACT, Rogers' suicide was a result of "the rotten fruit of the all-about-me individualist culture that comes when we deny the existence of God and his image in us."

FACT is currently pushing a state bill that would redefine school bullying polices so as not to "infringe upon the First Amendment rights of students" and not to "prohibit their expression of religious, philosophical, or political views as long as such expression does not include a threat of physical harm to a student or of damage to a student's property." In other words, this bill would make it easier for young Christian conservatives to bully gay kids, so long as they don't threaten them, beat them up, or break their stuff.

What else would one expect from a hate group?

I don't understand why gay young people are encouraged to come out in the American South. It is a dangerous thing to do, and it's more about serving the purposes of gay rights activists than about doing something with personal meaning. For God's sake, wait till you're in college. Yes, I know I'm old fashioned and politically incorrect, but teenagers shouldn't be sexually active anyway. Very few of my friends in high school dated anyone. Granted that I hung out with the nerds and brainiacs, but we were too busy studying, watching TV, and reading sci-fi, fantasy, or comic books. I know that classmates speculated on my being gay, but I put up with enough stuff for being nerdy. I didn't need that added to it.

This is a sad sad day when someone's fears and ignorance causes them to hate with such ferocity as to lose all compassion for their fellow human. This is not God's plan and Jesus never taught this. This is the product of fractured, fearful people who want to control their environment so that they never have to face the complexity and diversity of life. These are people who never learned how to live and let live. They need someone to pray REAL prayers for them. But who would want to? Rev. Roz Esposito

Family Action Christian-Taliban (FACT) is pushing for a Bill that will protect hate in the name of God? That would make any future Holocaust an approved activity.

One comment before discussing the legislation. Gays are a minority in the population but over represented in the media. They are on every show! That's Hollywood. Even Disney now takes parents out of all their shows so children think they are in charge, and avoiding promotion of the customary family structure. The adult gay population would like nothing more than to influence the youth and desensatize them so that future regulation serves them and their perverse lifestyle. Macy's Christmas Parade slipped in a gay presentation while my 2 young children were watching, and therefore we will not shop there any more.

The proposed legislation as I understand it will focus on the small radical element that is intent on harm. Violence, the threat of violence, and the fear that it causes are not to be tolerated by any of us. I hope the bill passes to focus on the fringe element that would cause harm. Gays need to realize the most impactful prejudice is unspoken. The image of Gay America is offensive, irritating, immoral, over the top flamboiant, and perverse. Bikers have a better image.
Me, I'll donate money to Family Action, I'll vote, and I'll promote.

You just made no sense what so ever.

Can you tell me exactly what is "Gay America"? Think about it and get back to me.

As for the Tennessee Christianban and their Bullying Bill, I could say that blacks are a minority in this country, and the image of Black America is offensive, irritating, immoral, over the top flamboiant (sic), and perverse...

or...

Wiccans are a minority in this country, and the image of Wiccan America is offensive, irritating, immoral, over the top flamboiant (sic), and perverse...

or...

Baptists are a minority in this country, and the image of Baptist America is offensive, irritating, immoral, over the top flamboiant (sic), and perverse...

etc, etc, etc. Pick your prejudice, wrapped it up with a biblical reference or a political ideology and spread the hate!

Gay America = Gay Lesbian Transgender Bi. Please know that I have gay friends and enjoy them on a personnal level, and have no issue with them. Hope you can understand my point, and many like me, that traditional values are under attack. Without moving to Montana we can't even shield our children from what most of the world sees as a pervsion. We must learn toleration, but children have a right to a traditional childhood. Did you ever see gays kissing on TV before 1980?? Now shows like Glee and Family Guy would try to slip under the radar under the false impression of a family show, but have quite a different agenda.

You may not agree or understand the logic, but that goes to your level of comprehension. Don't want to insult you and sorry if this comes off too rude. I will not tie up my weekend depating with you. I'm well aware that the majority of the audience of this site is of an alternate lifestyle. So we could be at this all day. I'm sure you are a decent person. Wish you could walk in my shoes for a week.

Logic? What logic? Everything you said makes no sense what so ever.

You have gay friends, yet bemoan the supposed disappearance of "traditional values." Does this mean that your "gay friends" aren't allowed to come over to the 4th of July cook out because your kids will be there? You either accept someone as they are, or else you don't. Stop trying to rationalize your own personal bigotry.

"We must learn toleration, but children have a right to a traditional childhood." What does this mean? What is a traditional childhood consist of? Working on the family farm as soon as a kid can walk? Or maybe it's getting a job at the local factory for pennies a day when they're about 10 or so?

As for TV, considering Family Guy a family show is the same as considering South Park a kids' show simply because it's a cartoon. I can't comment on Glee since I've never seen the show. I will say that I would watch it before letting my kids watch it, and their watching it would depend on several factors including age and maturity. Of course this requires a bit of parental interaction which seems to be lacking in our "traditional" society.

You go on to make more broad generalizations about that which you do not know. For your information I am a parent and a grandparent. I am very proud of the way my children look at others. They are far less bigoted and prejudicial than I could ever hope to be. So I have walked the perilous path of parenting, multiple times, and with a relatively high degree of success.

There is nothing wrong with my level of comprehension. You make it so clear that you are a bigot, that no one really has to ponder much on the thought.

Gay America = Gay Lesbian Transgender Bi.

That's HRC political correctness. That's not Gay America. "Gay" describes a male homosexual. In broader usage, it includes lesbians. Homosexuals, bisexuals, and transgendered individuals share nothing in common but political organizations.

Traditional values are cultural baggage and mean nothing. Christian values mean everything. And Christian values have been under attack by the religious right in this nation for over 30 years. Your "traditional values" equate to the values of the scribes and Pharisees of 1st century Judaism. There's nothing Christian about them.

And I have difficulty believing that you have gay friends. If so, you've badly misrepresented yourself to them or you've mistaken friendship with mere acquaintance.

Brunetto, I bet we would get a long well. I appreciate that you are a thoughtful person and well spoken. Agree to disagree. I have a house & business to run. Worked 70+ hours this week and really didn't take more than mere seconds to post a few comments. you can pick apart the meaning of a sentance, but people reading this, even GLBT persons can see by your profile, you are part of the fringe element of "Gay America" that is so offensive. You seem to be the tail end of the bell curve that negatively influences the image of hard working normal people of an alternate sexual orientation.
God bless you all. I love my friends who enjoy their lifestyle without attempting to limit my freedoms or rub it in our faces.
Going to work out now. Take care.

@WeNeed, say what? "So offensive" to whom? To YOU? Who the heck are you to criticize Brunetto? Do you know Brunetto?

Try working less than 70 plus hours per week; your brain is blazed.

O poor speller of a thousand usernames, I am indeed a fringe element of "gay America", and how perceptive of you to notice. There aren't many of us who identify as gay and (otherwise) conservative Christian. But I disagree that we would get along well. I'm a curmudgeon, and unless you spent those 70 hours working out to maintain an ideal male physique, I would probably speak my mind right away and that would be that. But alas, I'm old enough that even male beauty doesn't phase me for long. Try harder when reaching for an insult next time. There's nothing in my profile but links to old posts.

Silly people - don't you know that working hard and owning a business and raising kids entitles you to hate the gay? And that being a Christian means you can say, "God bless you," to someone you'd love to see tormented in flames for all eternity.

Brunetto, you hit the mark with the scribes and Pharisees comment. That's why some folks want to delete Jesus' confrontations with them as some kind of intra-family squabble totally devoid of symbolic meaning and thus unworthy of study and application. Jesus' socialist tendencies are soooooo inconvenient to the modern conservative Christian.

If only someone could dig up a Gospel that has Jesus righteously condemning the gay as the root of all evil, I'm sure they'd get it included in the New Testament right way, even if it also had flying talking crosses, human sacrifice, and said Jesus was married.
