National HIV Testing Day

Posted By on Mon, Jun 25, 2012 at 4:39 PM

Tuesday is National HIV Testing Day, and Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region is offering free HIV and syphilis testing.

The confidential tests include prevention counseling and are available between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26th at 2430 Poplar.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that one in five people who have HIV are not aware that they have the virus. More than 6,300 Shelby County residents are living with HIV, and the county has lost 3,000 residents to the AIDS epidemic since it began. Shelby County accounts for 40 percent of all HIV/AIDS cases statewide.
