Music Music News: Harlan T. Bobo, Magic Kids, Huey Lewis & the News

Harlan T. Bobo is currently finishing up his third full-length for Goner Records at Doug Easley's new studio. Huey Lewis and the News have been recording a brand new album with John Hampton, Jim Gaines and Curry Weber at Ardent, rumored to be a Stax tribute. The San Diego-based Wavves — which includes Memphians and Barbaras/Jay Reatard alums Billy Hayes and Stephen Pope — are cutting in Oxford. "Soul Music," an Anthony Hamilton track recorded and produced by Scott Bomar of Electraphonic Recording has received a Grammy nomination in the Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance Category.
As you may have read in the Flyer's cover story last week, the Magic Kids just signed to Matador Records imprint True Panther Sounds. On Friday, they embark on a 16-date tour, to be followed by sessions for their True Panther debut and an appearance at SXSW.
Also on tour in February: The North Mississippi Allstars and the City Champs. And the men of Lucero, who just got a prehistoric bird named in their honor.
Yep, you read right.
From Discovery News: "Judging from the size of the hindlimb, Hollanda luceria most closely resembled the modern Southern Screamer," project leader Alyssa Bell, a researcher in the Dinosaur Institute at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, told Discovery News.
The modern Southern Screamer's call has been likened to a blaring trumpet and a stadium horn.
