COGIC Hits Town Tomorrow — 50,000 Strong!

The annual convocation of the Church of God in Christ is expected to bring about 50-thousand delegates to Memphis. The 99th meeting of the denomination opens tomorrow in Memphis, where it is based.

A worship service Monday morning is being observed in preparation for the convocation.

The Church of God in Christ bills itself as the nation's largest Pentecostal denomination with more than 6 million members in 54 countries. The group says it will continue meeting in Memphis through its centennial year convocation next year.

The late Bishop Charles Harrison Mason founded the group. his great-grandson Elder Charles Harrison Mason Patterson says the church is more than a denomination, calling it "an extended family." — Associated Press
