Bredesen Hands Out First Card for “Cover Tennessee”

Posted By on Fri, Mar 9, 2007 at 4:00 AM

In an outdoors ceremony at Nashville’s downtown Arcade on Thursday, Tennessee governor Phil Bredesen handed out the first “CoverTN” card to to Angie Moore, sales manager of The Pepper Patch, a small specialty foods shop in suburban Franklin with 15 employees. A similar ceremony was planned for Shelton Clothiers in Memphis on Friday. “Cover Tennessee," which is independent of the now shrunken TennCare, is a voluntary insurance plan processed through Blue Cross/BlueShield.

The plan involves no front-end deductibles and requires a $25 co-payment for a doctor's office visit and $10 for most prescription drugs. Premiums are based on weight, tobacco use and age - with an average monthly premium of $50 for each payer. Coverage is also available for hospitalization.
