Memphis Animal Services Director Resigns

Posted By on Tue, Mar 27, 2007 at 4:00 AM

Memphis Animal Services is looking for a new administrator. Phil Snyder, hired in October 2004, has accepted a position with the Suncoast, Florida, Humane Society, effective in mid-April.

Snyder was instrumental in changing the department’s name (formerly the Memphis Animal Shelter) and during his two-and-a-half year tenure believes he has improved Animal Services’ image.

”We’ve cleaned up the facility, provided more staff training, instituted microchipping of adopted animals, and originated a nonprofit site that will help with fund-raising.”

Snyder is disappointed that plans have stalled to build a larger and more animal- and customer-friendly facility in 2007. Though a design process is in the works, no construction date is set. The city is launching a national search for a new administrator.
