Guy Sebastian's Memphis Diary

"MY journey has begun. Here I am, having just arrived in Los Angeles and getting ready for what will be an incredible six weeks.
"I was on the same flight as Kyle Sandilands and a whole bunch of WWF wrestlers, so between him and them I knew there was enough buffness on board to resolve even the most aggressive security alert.
"I'm at my hotel on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood and preparing for my week ahead. The room is comfortable and the mini-bar is full for now.
"The reason I'm in LA for a couple of weeks is to do some songwriting for my next originals album before I head to Memphis. ..."
Yep, the Australian Idol winner is on his way to Memphis. Read his diary and watch for him on Beale. He'll be the guy saying "G'day, mates. I'm recording a soul album."

It's great to see you giving coverage to Guy's visit. He really is an amazing talent, which I'm sure you will soon discover. I can't wait to hear the results of this soul album. He lives and breathes soul music. Go Guy.!!!

If you're going to run the blog, run it, without attitude. You've chosen to lead with parts that would be totally boring to your local readers. How about this from the blog? "I'm going to be recording a tribute album to the great soul music scene of East Memphis music scene. This year is the 50th anniversary of the Stax record label and Memphis soul music, so the timing couldn't be better. Soul music sits deep in my heart and is the reason I got into music in the first place, so this is a record I've always wanted to make ... today I conversed with Steve Cropper, who is playing on and producing the record. ... Steve has assembled most of the original members of the Stax band for the sessions so it will be an amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Guy will be approaching the whole project with total respect. Please give him some in return.

I know Guy cant wait to start recording his 'soul' album in Memphis with the original Stax band. Thanks for keeping your readers up to date with what is happening for Guy. He is an incredible talent as Memphis is about to discover.
Guy is so pumped about his visit to Memphis and having the opportunity to record with the great legends from Stax. And what a soul album it's going to be. When you hear Guy sing you'll be totally blown away - this guy has got real soul!!!!

OK, I think I get it. There are a couple of different versions of that blog. One of them omits mentioning that Guy will be working with most of the old Stax band, and that might be the one the Flyer picked up. Otherwise, I'm sure the Flyer would have mentioned Booker T and Steve, etc.- as the musicians associated with the Guy album.
Great to see that your paper has picked up these blogs. Guy has many devoted fans in Australia who cant wait for him to come home with his soul goodies. What an honour for Guy to be working with the best in the industry in this area. Hopefully it will be a mutual blessing for them all. Cheers

Thanks for week 2, Flyer. I'd heard he was flying to Memphis on Tuesday. Can't see him doing that if he's got 4 more days with DRT. Looks like plans have changed ... again. For anyone interested who doesn't know - Dean Geyer is a singer who's dating one of the Veronicas (you know who they are). And Jules is Julie, Guy's longtime girlfriend.
Thanks for keeping the link to Guy's blog for the second week of his trip. It's interesting to read about the great people he is working with. I'm still looking forward to the Memphis section of his trip the most. That will be the highlight for me.!!
