Timberlake's Music Sexy to Sharks

Posted on Fri, Aug 10, 2007 at 4:00 AM

German scientists have come up with a novel way to get their captive sharks to breed: a little mood music. While Britney Spears' croonings failed to inspire, there was success with music by Salt n Pepper and Memphis' own Justin Timberlake.

According to a story in The Independent, a lack of guidance from older sharks has kept breeding down in Germany's aquariums. Replicating an earlier study that suggested that fish react to music the same as humans, German scientists decided to conduct an experiment, playing two hours of different types of music -- from hip hop to classical and rock -- to see if it produced the desired effect.

After playing Joe Cocker's "You Can Leave Your Hat On" and Salt N Pepper's "Push It" for the sharks, a nice pile of eggs appeared.

As for Timberlake's "Rock Your Body":

"Zebra sharks in Konstanz were seen to be 'courting each other heavily.'"
