The two-acre park, located across from Theatre Memphis, is the 19th in the nation funded in part by the R.A. Bloch Foundation. The sculptures in the Memphis park, designed by Mexican artist Victor Salmones, consist of eight life-size figures passing through a rectangular maze that symbolizes a persons journey through cancer. Visitors will be encouraged to move among the figures.
The park will also include a labyrinth, landscaping, and what developers describe as a "Positive Attitude Walk" -- 14 plaques containing suggestions for fighting cancer -- as well as a Road to Recovery -- seven plaques describing the diseases and options for treatment.
The park is scheduled to open in 2008.
