John Ford Gets 14 More Years in Prison

Posted Mon, Sep 29, 2008 at 4:00 AM

NASHVILLE -- Former state Senator John Ford of Memphis, already serving 5 ½ years in a federal prison in Louisiana for a bribery conviction related to the Tennessee Waltz scandal, picked up another 14 years Monday in Nashville from U.S. District Judge Todd J. Campbell.

That sentence was imposed on Ford as the penalty for his conviction on two counts of wire fraud and four counts of making false statements

Ford was found guilty by a federal jury earlier this year on charges of accepting more than $800,000 to help out-of-state companies acquire TennCare contracts and to push for legislation that directly favored the companies.

The controversial and flamboyant former senator had acknowledged working to achieve the two companies' legislative ends but had argued at trial that he had merely served them as a legal consultant.

One might wonder if John Ford was affiliated with a political party whilst comitting the crimes netting him 19&1/2 years in prison.

Yes, Kook. John Ford was of the John Ford Party. If you're trying to suggest he was some dyed-in-the-wool Democratic Party stalwart, you don't know his history. John played no favorites that way and was especialy close to former Governor Don Sundquist, a Republican.

You know, Kook, I'm not affiliated with either political party, although I used to identify more with the Republcans, (used to read Wm. F. Buckley all the time when in high school many years ago). I've since left them, not to return, at least not until they get rid of the social litmus tests and the religious nuts. But what I've found is that for many people, mostly Repubs, but not exclusively, it's more about "my team" winning the big game and scoring points against the other side than it is about doing what's good for the country. Sort of a UT/Alabama thing. You seem like one of those people. Too bad your side is going to get waxed in about a month.

Memphis politicians continue to be an embarrassment to the State of Tennessee and the Ford family has been a big contributer. I suggest we reroute the Mississippi river so Memphis would be in another state.

Calvin, we've got some doozies in Memphis, that's for certain. but when Nashville had Bill Boner as mayor, when rural sheriffs all over the state were being indicted for corruption, when CHattanooga's sheriff was caught selling drugs, when East TN is the meth capital of the country, when the nashville HQ of the TN Highway patrol is as corrupt and politically skewed as any state institution, when the highway fund was run as the road builders personal slush fund, etc., etc., etc., no one suggested or ever suggests that those other parts of the state be kicked out of TN. Why? Don't bother answering, we know why, just shut up, you old fool.

John Ford NOT a DEMOCRAT - what are you guys smoking? If he's not been a Democrat, there are thousands of errors on Ye Olde Internet - from Associated Press to Wikipedia and on and on - Maybe you can get Al Gore on that since he invented the Internet. Once again we can see from Tammany Hall to the Daly Machine to Boss Crump to King Willie to Rangle (Mr. Tax), who tolerates the crap... PS- Janice F (D) is at 0.15 - Ophelia F (D) is a 0.18...

Happy Birthday to you john today. If you can't say anything good why say anything at all. Obviously some of you don't really know the Ford family. its alright to read but get your information accurately. John Ford and the Ford family is a good family and John being in jail is not going to stop God from continuing to bless him and his family. In fact we shall continue to fight for his freedom and the Ford family shall continue to hold offices and help poor people as well as people in general. They will also continue to be a powerful family where ever they go meeting all types of test. Thar is life. It does not change ones mistake but you can not take the good away John Ford has done for so many because he is in jail. in fact this should cause those whom he has helped help him in return. You have no heaven or hell to put John Ford in. This whole thing was personal satisfactions and that is why it will never turn out the way you people want it. I know that God is on his side just by the way this whole thing played out. Two wrongs don't make no one right.
