MSARC Turned Over to City Attorney's Office

Posted by Mary Cashiola on Tue, May 19, 2009 at 12:28 PM

During a contentious City Council committee meeting -- in which members Kemp Conrad, Shea Flinn, Jim Strickland, and Bill Boyd walked out -- Memphis CAO Keith McGee today said the city attorney's office would assume executive oversight of the Memphis Sexual Assault Resource Center.

McGee said that the center, which has been plagued with allegations of mismanagement under Public Services and Neighborhoods director Ken Moody and deputy director Yalanda McFadgon, will also be audited by an outside firm.

Before discussion about MSARC began, Moody and McFadgon, already at the table for a previous item, excused themselves from the room. Conrad then requested that the council hear the issue during executive session.

"I want to hear from the people responsible for this division," he said.

After Joe Brown, the committee chair, did not accept the motion, another motion was made to overrule the chair. Brown did not accept that motion, either, and several council members then left the room.

Brown said the council owed it to the public and the media to hear McGee's presentation.

"We don't turn over meetings in the middle of a session," Brown said. "We just don't do that. We're going to hear this meeting out."

City Council chair Myron Lowery later entered the meeting and said they would hear the issue in executive session later on today.

Nah, to Hizlackofhonner, it's just one more gale to ride out until it eventually blows over. And it will, don't worry. It's just more "whitey's out to get me." He doesn't care and most of our "good citizens" don't either. The apathy in this city is appalling and deadly.

Is this McFadgon person the same convict that keeps surfacing everytime the Mayor is caught in the middle of some BS? If they mismanaged hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars then hell let's call in the FEDs. What are they trying to hide over there? What is done in the dark will sooner or later surface, now that's the real deal.

I have to say that the comment Marie made quite frankly fits the situation precisely. Regardless of how cute and pretty that the Mayor want to dress up his felons, they are still just that. How in the heck is felon criminal running any f/ing thing? Hell if they were so damn bright they wouldn't be felons or even x-felons for that matter. No, seriously. Thugs looking out for more thugs, kinda make you say Hmmmmmmmm!

Is this the kind of leadership we really need or want in Memphis though. A thug Mayor a posse of thugs. He is always ready to take somthing to the parking lot. Let's arrange him a fight with the light weights, we don't want to hurt him to bad, he has done okay for the Memphis folk. But now, I just simply think Congressman Cohen is the Boss man now.
