"For the Love of Shirley" Benefit This Weekend

Posted on Thu, Sep 17, 2009 at 3:20 PM

Friday and Saturday night at Midtown's Hi-Tone Cafe, a large group of local musicians — including Jack O & the Tearjerkers, Impala, and Snowglobe — will band together to assist Shirley Williams, the beloved barkeep at Madison Avenue dive the Lamplighter and den mother of sorts to the Midtown cultural scene, who is struggling with medical costs after recent health problems.

Chris Herrington has the details on this — and other special weekend music events — in this week's Local Beat column. And Andria Lisle pays tribute to "Miss Shirley" and the Lamplighter on Sing All Kinds, the Flyer's pop culture blog.
