Phillips was at the National Civil Rights Museum this morning for a Q&A with the Dalai Lama and will be covering the rest of today's Freedom Awards events.
"After the Q&A, he was leaving the auditorium and everyone was reaching out to him," she reports. "He stopped at me and said, 'Ooooh,' and he reached out and jiggled my lip ring.
"He kind of laughed to himself and then he walked on."

Of course everyone knows that touching any metallic element attached to the human lip is a sacred Tibetan ritual believed to keep the yak herds free of disease.
He touched my shoulder once while I was in the middle of a hacky-sack game. In fact, he touched every player in the circle and we never dropped the sack while he made his rounds. The Jewel is in the Lotus.
CHG: Mysticism? Actually it was an attempt at a little lighthearted humor. We haven't seen much of that around here since the classic BV-generated "tip jokes" back in the summer of '09. Ahh, those were the days weren't they?
