Flyer, Memphis magazine, win Numerous Green Eyeshade Awards

Staffers for the Flyer and Memphis magazine won a total of 10 Green Eyeshade awards. Hosted by the Society for Professional Journalists, the Green Eyeshades salute the best work of journalists in an 11-state Southern region. Contemporary Media winners included:

Bianca Phillips -- First Place in General News Reporting for "The Most Dangerous Neighborhood in Memphis" (Memphis Flyer)

Bianca Phillips -- Third Place for Courts & Law Reporting for "Blunt Assessment" (Memphis Flyer)

Chris Herrington -- First Place in Criticism for "Refuge in the Blues," "Many Voices, Many Rooms," and "From Mystery Train to Memphis Beat" (Memphis Flyer)

Brian Groppe -- Second Place for Best Magazine Cover for "City Guide 2010" (Memphis magazine)

Brian Groppe -- Third Place for Best Magazine Cover for "The Man Who Built Modern Memphis: The World of Roy Harrover" (Memphis magazine).

Jackson Baker -- Third Place for Editorials for "Accepting Change," "Scapegoating," and "Connecting the Dots" (Memphis Flyer)

John Branston -- Third Place for Serious Commentary - Non-Dailies for various "City Beat" columns (Memphis Flyer)

Marilyn Sadler -- Third Place for Investigative Reporting for "Absence of Motive" (Memphis magazine).

Marilyn Sadler -- Third Place for Serious Commentary - Magazines for "At a Loss" (Memphis magazine).

Vance Lauderdale -- Third Place for Humorous Column for "Ask Vance"� (Memphis magazine).
