The employees at Davis-Kidd Booksellers hearts are swelling to the point of no return, and to show their love for little kids, the bookstore is having a big "heart-a-thon." Kids from all over are invited to come to Davis-Kidd at 11 a.m. on February 15th, to join in making a collective heart collage. To intensify the loving fun, a reading of David Carter's Love Bugs will top off the afternoon. For more information, call 682-0042.
Also on Saturday, the Lichterman Nature Center is offering guided nature walks at 11a.m. and 2 p.m. for children of all ages and adults. Just $2 for adults and $1 for children is all it will cost to enjoy the oftentimes unappreciated wildlife and naturally beautiful surroundings of Memphis. The center is located at 1680 Lynnfield off Quince. Call 767-7322 for more information.
If you've got a rocket handy, then you should definitely make it to the Model Rocket Launch on Saturday. The Mid-South Rocket Society is willing to let you, yes, all of you young rocket-owners, come out to Shelby Farms from 9 a.m. until dusk to launch your model rocket off launch pads, which the society will provide. They'll even have people on hand to retrieve the rockets once they've been let loose. If you're thinking that life can't get better than that, then think again-- spectators can come watch for free! Rocket-launchers will need to pay a $4 park-user fee. If the weather is threatening on Saturday, call 274-5040 to see if the launch is still on. To find the fun, go to Shelby Farms, northwest corner of Farm Road and Walnut Grove.

Tired of having to turn the radio
dial every time a crass broadcaster tries to tempt your kids into listening
to racy dialogue and fast, hellish and entirely unsuitable (for youngsters
that is) music? Well, it's time to breathe a sigh of relief-- Children's
Broadcasting Corporation has come to Memphis and is prepared to take on
the risky responsibility of entertaining and educating your kids and
you.
With a variety of music, news, stories, and games, the award-winning Radio AAHS, now in affiliation with WOWW-AM 1430 of Memphis, is one of the top-rated family programs being broadcast on the radio today. Not only does WOWW promise to provide 24 hours of good, clean fun for the whole family every day, but the local station also plans to hire some aspiring Larry Kings to experiment as on-air deejays and reporters. These chosen few (sorry, parents -- this is for kids only) will be deemed members of the "AirForce" and may get to do cool things like host a kid's sports show.
Parents can participate in the festivities by taking their kids to the Radio AAHS extravaganza on Saturday, February 15th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Children's Museum of Memphis. The party will officially launch the newly arrived program, and those attending will receive birthday cake, T-shirts, and prizes. Storytelling and face painting are also among the anticipated launching activities, which means tons o' fun for the entire family. It's a definite Saturday-afternoon must. For more information, call 320-3170.
There will also be a limited number of auditions for "AirForce Kids" at the party, so help your little ones brush up on their techniques and urge them to try out their stuff for the crowd. It will be a good experience and a great time. So, come on out to the Children's Museum on Saturday and help celebrate the arrival of Kid Safe Radio,if for no other reason than to show gratitude that your station-surfing days could possibly be over.
