What's in a Name?
More than you might think when you consider that state Senator John Ford
shares his with the celebrated director of American Westerns. And when you
start looking at the films of John Ford the director, things get downright
eerie.
The Whole Town's Talking (1935) about The Brat (1931) of the
Ford family and his latest brush with Gun Law (1919 -- short film).
John Ford was Roped (1919) in by law enforcement last weekend when
he allegedly revealed himself to be A Gun Fightin' Gentleman (1919)
by displaying a shotgun and threatening an MLGW crew, perhaps thinking They
Were Expendable (1945).
Was Ford Born Reckless (1930) or is he just Hell Bent (1918)
on destroying his political career? The Gun Packer (1919 -- short
film) was hauled in for Straight Shooting (1917) once before, when
he allegedly fired a pistol at a truck driver; a charge for which he was
later acquitted. And although he may not have fathered children with as
many as 7 Women (1966), his paternity problems are well known.
Could this be The Last Hurrah (1958) for the Ford with The Fighting
Heart (1925)? The end of his Desperate Trails (1921)? If convicted
of a felony, Ford will not only become ineligible to serve in the legislature
but he might even be sent Up the River (1930) to share a concrete
suite with Three Bad Men (1926) while watching The Rising
of the Moon (1957) through bars for two to 15 years.
Gunslinging may have been How the West Was Won (1962), but
-- come on -- Ford lives in East Memphis.
