Letters to the EditorE=R.I.P. To the Editor: Maybe Memphis is better off without Debbie Gilbert (First Person, August 12th issue). While Elvis wasn't Einstein, I thought the mean-spirited attack on him was absolutely disgraceful. How about a little respect for the dead? Jennifer Walter Why Can't We Be FriendsTo the Editor: Come on, folks, quit your bitchin'! (Letters, August 12th issue) If all local environmental groups would join together, we have a good chance of protecting all of Shelby Farms, including the Natural Area, from the destruction caused by new roads through its boundaries. The federal law says so. The Friends of Shelby Farms are working hardest for this happy result. Those who really care will help us. Lois Kuiken Friends of Shelby Farms The Darwin Bubble BurstsTo the Editor: I hate to burst your evolutionary bubble, but Darwinistic evolution is not a universally accepted theory of human origins (Editorial, August 12th issue). The fact that you have been told all your life that evolution is fact by the largely atheistic media and school systems does not, indeed, make it so. The theory of evolution is the worst piece of pseudo-science, circular reasoning, imagination, and all-out fabrication the world has ever known. Evolution is, in fact, a religion. The adherents wish to deny the existence of the One True God and elevate themselves to that position. It takes a lot more faith in their religion to believe in garbage like evolution than to believe in the God who created everything you see. Consider the factual evidence: Darwin himself stated that his theory would hinge exclusively on the fossil record. The fossil record has utterly failed to support his theory. In fact, the fossil record supports Biblical Creation almost perfectly. There has never been found a single transitional species, period. For some strange reason, all the species can be found to have appeared at the same time. Religious evolutionists use the theory of evolution to prove the theory of evolution over and over again. True scientists know that that is strictly forbidden by the scientific method. The same is true for fabrication of evidence. Look at Piltdown Man and Nebraska Man. Only someone with a lot of faith in his theory would deny the second Law of Thermodynamics as well. Notice that said law, as in proven by factual evidence. Everything eventually disintegrates or winds down. Yet we are supposed to believe that things are becoming more and more complicated. Those who adhere to it do so either because they have been spoon-fed this travesty all their lives or because they refuse to believe in God. Believing in God would make them face the fact that they are sinners and need a savior from their sins. I could go on and on, but I will suggest you read Darwin On Trial by Phillip E. Johnson. The reason these school systems are taking evolution out of the science curriculum is that it is not science in any way, shape, or form. It is mathematically, chemically, physiologically, evidentially, thermodynamically, and logically impossible. Many reputable scientists have abandoned Darwinistic evolution because the evidence does not support it. The atheistic media and school systems refuse to inform people of such things because it does not serve their Godless purpose. E. Blake Daigle The Horror, The HorrorTo the Editor: I found Phil Cambell's review of The Blair Witch Project over-analyzed and with too much praise for its creativity of projecting horror and suspense (Film Reviews, August 5th issue). I personally find watching Bellevue Baptist Church's Sunday sermon by Adrian Rogers much more horrific and frightening, to say the least. Mark Benton The Dip Tube ProblemTo the Editor: Having recently experienced a dip-tube problem with my Midtown home water heater, my wife and I really enjoyed the writing of Walter Jowers in the recent issue of the Flyer (Helter Shelter, August 12th issue). From the showerhead to my polished brass Kohler bathroom fixtures, I flushed them for hours in an attempt to rid us of the pesky white flakes. Since we purchased the circa-1980s home in 1998, I felt that I was simply stuck with the cost for the repairs. I am happy to announce that most, if not all, of the manufacturers are honoring requests for payments for such repairs. One of my coworkers received almost $200 for his, and I sent bills to the AO Smith Company for $90 for the needed repairs. My repair cost was somewhat less because of the home warranty that covered the initial replacement of the dip tube. The balance of the cost to me was for the related clogged shower control valve and stated fixtures above. As a follow up, Mr. Jowers could publish a "how to" on contacting those companies. One simply needs the part and date data from the label on the side of the water heater.
