Jake Ford would be an embarrassment to both the the district and his family. His lack of knowledge about the issues, disrespect of his own family, arrest record, lack of education, and refusal to run in the Democratic primary are all bad enough. What is really disgusting for me are the assaults. Having grown up living with an abuser, what I think should happen to any man who attacks a woman or a child can't be said in this newspaper.

Why has it taken so long for Herenton to suggest such increases in Police manpower? Memphis is in the midst of a crime wave that threatens to curb the re-urbanization of downtown and force more Shelby county residents to DeSoto County and other alternatives simply to avoid the crime and the new taxes.

Jake Ford is an embarrassment to both the the district and his family. His election to public office (any public office) would surely bring about scandal & shame to Tennessee. I attended both forums that Ford participated in recently. Not since the wit & wisdom of Dan Quayle has the electorate been exposed to such butter-knife like wit, offered by the deer-in-the headlights Mr.Ford. At one point during the previous forum, Mr. Ford proposed to reduce crime by putting less police officers on our streets and implying that 'crime' was a by-product of gentrification. His rambling, inability to focus on the questions put before him and his constant attempts at mudslinging prompted laughter and derision from the audience. At one point, the 'honorable' candidate seemed to lose his patience with his potential constituents. One wonders if Mr.Ford is unable to govern his outbursts at public forum, how does hope to offer governance to our district? I could care less if he did drugs in the past, (I just wish that he wouldn't do them immediately before attending a public forum) or that he may have assaulted his father, girlfriend, or brother. The way a man conducts himself in private is his business after all. But when a man runs for public office then, we must allow ourselves to try and look into not the 'color of his skin, but the content of his character'. We are at that moment is history, foretold by a man of great character that served the people to the deepest level. My family has been involved in Democratic party politics since my Grandfather & Father supported Harold Ford Sr. & Jr. Jake Ford IS NO Harold Ford (Sr. or Jr.) This district (like our nation) is in serious need of good political leadership, from men of good character, whose proven commitment to the people is on record. The only record(s) that we may have of Jake Ford is arrests, GED test scores and 'some' college transcripts. Mr. Ford is a dangerous mix of divisive racial politics and ambition. Not that this district is any stranger to such antics, but it would refreshing to have politicians that were truly (truthfully) unifying in their message & mission. Be assured, Jake Ford's commitment is to himself, a self that has so far proven to be vain, arrogant and at the very least 'troubled'. If, Mr.Ford is truly interested in the public good, he should do the public an honorable service: withdraw, sir and allow men of better character to serve our district. Mr. Ford, you are truly interested in serving your fellow man, may I suggest Habitat for Humanity, MIFA or something better suited to your qualifications like the many of several Taco Bell locations throughout the state. You do a great dis-service to the Democratic Party and the democratic process, by continuing your candidacy.

October 16, 2006—Emboldened by the success of Jerry Lee Lewis's recent release, "Last Man Standing," Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have announced their plans to record a new CD together. The back cover of Lewis' CD states, "50 years ago, Sam Phillips' legendary Sun Records in Memphis, Tennessee was the home of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis, the founding fathers of rock and roll--today, Jerry Lee Lewis is 'The Last Man Standing.'" Tentatively titled "At Least We're Not Dead Like Those Other Two Chumps," the new disc by the former Beatles will boast collaborations with, in Starr's words, "other, likeminded artists who, like us, are not dead. That's something to celebrate, right? Like, if John, George, Paul, and I were in a race, John and George would be the losers at this point." McCartney added that the guest artists would all share the additional characteristic of "not being as talented or as famous as us. Well, not as talented as me, anyway." The goal, he said, was to "make our dead ex-partners look bad as well as make our collaborators look less stellar than us. I mean, if I were a bride, I'd want someone like Tiffany or the chick from Heart to be a bridesmaid, to be the, you know, ugly girl in the bad dress, so to speak, making me look more attractive. So we're getting people like that to join us. Not the blond chick from Heart, mind you—the brunette." When asked if he thought such comments might be construed as insensitive, McCartney noted, "Remember--I'm the one who was married to the one-legged landmine lady." Look for "ALWNDLTOTC" to hit stores sometime early next summer.

I appreciate your explanation. I feel that we need to be very careful how we "say or speak". We never know who will be offended. I read Cohen comments in the Commercial Appeal (10/15/2006. I cannot quote exactly what he said, therefore, I will not try this time. In all fairness to him, it related to "if a student could did not meet the requirement of college studies, the scholarships would not be used in a way that it was meant to be". This is not a quote. But I still have the paper. The Headline: " HOPE". In our district, that I live in, that is about 65 percent black or more, we need a "qualified" candidate to represent us. Mr. Herenton, often, state his unimportant views about the Fords. He was given a chance to study at the Rockfellow Center, (a young man at the time that came from the projects). As Mayor, I feel that he should show more intelligence. But there is an old saying: You can take someone out of the country and put that same someone in the city, but you cannot take the country out them. SO WHAT CAN I SAY? I EXPECT SUCH FROM HIM. I HAD HOPE THAT HE WOULD SHOW THAT HE COULD RISE ABOVE "FRAY" AND SHOW HIS INTELLIGENCE, BUT I SEE THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. It appears that he will never learn.

In about 4 hours I drank half the bottle & had to force myself to stop. I was concerned about the fat & calories but since I didn't know the nutritional infomation it was OK. Only problem is I can't get an answer when I call for the information that is listed on the bottle cap. I don't think it would matter. Shame buttermilk doesn't taste good on cereal.

Ford's family has put itself through the ringer time and again...for all to see and read about. He should understand that it is going to be an issue...I don't think he is surprised that it is...If he wasn't somewhat worried about his family's reputation affecting this race...I think he would have dropped it by now. Showing up at Corker's press conference was very unprofessional...very unconventional and I think finally brought out one of Ford's weaknesses for all to see...he, just like the rest of his family, will do about anything to try and gain an advantage...people, in general, don't like that type of behavior

The Corker confrontation shows that just under his veneer of a “new” Ford lays the “old” Ford, the angry in your face behavior seen overtly in John, Sr., Jake and Isaac Ford. HFJr. can be very charming until someone does something that Jr. does not like and out comes Mr. Hyde, the abusive thug that is in many (but certainly not all) of the Ford clan. Just wait and watch his behavior when Jr. looses. Stop the Fords!!! Vote Green!!! Vote Chris Lugo, as an alternative and a protest vote against Jr. and Corker and Bush.

I THINK HAROLD FORD USED A GREAT TECHNIQUE MOVING IN ON BOB CORKER THE WAY HE DID. MR. FORD IS AGRESSIVE AND STARIGHT FORWARD. THIS IS THE TYPE OF SENATOR WE NEED IN WASHINGTON AT THIS TIME. NOT ONE WHO THROWS A ROCK AND HIDES HIS HANDS. MR.FORD, IS YOUNGER AND IS TRULY FROM A NEW GENERATION. MR.CORKER IS CLEARLY FROM THE SAME OLD ORDER OF YESTER YEAR. BECAUSE THIS COUNTRY IS ON A DOWNWARD SLOPE, IN EDUCATION, INTERNATIONALLY, DOMESTICALLY, FINANCIALLY, SOCIALLY AND MORALLY; YOU NAME IT! WE NEED FRESH MINDS AND PEOPLE WHO ARE WILLING AND ABLE TO FORCE A DIFFERENT AGENDA. WHILE HIS TACTIC WAS UNUSUAL IT DOES NOT MAKE IT ANY MORE OFFENSIVE THAN SPEAKING ILL OF ONES FAMILY. IF REPUBLICANS ARE TIRED OF MR.FORD DEFENDING HIS FAMILY, SOME DEMOCRATS ARE TIRED OF THE CONSTANT MUD SLINGING ON THE YOUNG MR.FORDS' FAMILY.

I kinda think most have missed the entire point. Its not about style or scoring points or stealing news cycles. It's not about looking senatorial, neither candidate really looked that. Ford was a tad brash and Corker was caught whining. But hey in the heat of the moment each candidate gets a pass there. NO one has mentioned what I think to be most important line of the whole confrontation, when Ford turns and walks toward Corker and says "What about this Iraq thing?" Seriously, Bob. What about this Iraq thing? 80 US soliders dead this month alone, we've still got 8 days to go. Its been the bloodiest month in over 2 years there. There is no end in sight and Mr. Corker nor his backers have any idea how to stop or slow the bloodshed. What about this Iraq thing? Its only the most important issue to confront our nation since the end of the Cold War and you have nothing. Government ethics is important don't get me wrong, but Corker wasnt there to talk about some groundbreaking ethics package that revitalize the US House and US Senate and free each chamber from the hold of Special Interests. In truth, his proposal was quite lame. He was using Memphis as his background to re-talk and re-focus his attacks on Harold Sr and again attempt to imply that SR lobbies Jr although the Corker campaign has admitted no evidence exists to prove that. What about this Iraq thing? This should be the new rallying cry for all Ford supporters. Corker went to the airport hoping to launch a broadside attack on the Ford Family thru the guise of a "Government Ethics Reform" package, Ford Jr went there looking for answer about "this Iraq thing" from an opponent that has done nothing put talk out of both sides of his mouth on this issue (see "stay the Course" video on this blog. What about this Iraq thing?

A Memphis Democrat Against the Fords  10/23/2006 - 9:50pm
A Memphis Democrat against the Fords Why trust Ford on Iraq? Ford was an early proponent of the war. In December 2001, he joined with Trent Lott and others in a letter to Congress advocating the removal of Saddam Hussein. What was his justification? This was well before the Bush propaganda machine began “cooking the books for the war. The only remotely legal basis to move against Iraq militarily was UN Resolution 1440 concerning WMD. This was not a proposal to invade a sovereign nation to change its government, no matter how reprehensible Hussein was/is. This invasion was a violation of international law. With the resulting chaos and death that has ensued, Bush et al should be considered war criminals. After advocating the war, Ford voted for the war. At least some said no. As Iraq spiraled into civil war and chaos, Ford continued to sign on to the war as Ford hails "my friend President Bush. Ford’s only initial criticism was that “we just didn’t send in enough troops. Ford has yet to show any outrage at this administration’s willful manipulation of the evidence for and against Iraqi WMD. Now, the Iraqi war is the worst geo-political mistake in the history of this country, one Ford personally advocated and supported. And what does Ford come up with, the brilliant idea of dividing Iraq into three separate states. This policy show just how badly the war has gone. It is a policy that has resulted from failure not success. The fact that Ford assumes that he or the US will have a say in the eventual break up of Iraq shows the same bad judgment that got the US into this war in the first place.

There is this "New Thing" in neo-conservative politics that I will jump-the-gun and call "So Conservative It's Liberal. So Liberal It's Insane."Here is how the math behind "So Conservative It's Liberal-isum" works with fiscal budgeting tabula-rosa: If you had no more than 25,ooo businesses in Memphis that earned no more than $1500.oo per day in sales @ the current sales-tax rate of 9.25%. That would yield: $374,092.50 per day in tax revenue for memphis per day. ANNUALLY: $59,862,960. Revenues from city-owned-and-operated utilities provider Memphis Light, Gas & Water. If there were no more than 250,000 customers, (in a city of more than one million citizens), who payed no more than $200.oo per month in utility bills would earn $50,000,000 per month in revenues for Memphis. ANNUALY: $700,000,000. Revenues from The Memphis City Jail. If you had no more than 1200 beds that collected no more than $50.oo from tha federal government for housing earns $60,000 per day. ANNUALLY:$9,120,000. THIS TOTAL DOES NOT INCLUDE REVENUES FROM SDCC. Revenues from collection of property taxes. If you had no more than 30,000 homes with a property assesment value of no more than $52,000 dollars per home @ a property tax rate of 7% yields: $14,700,000 per year in tax revenue. "So Conservative It's Insane." total: $783,682,960 per year in revenues for The City of Memphis.

While working in memphis theatre I often found myself wondering, while empathising with the patron, (..which was my own humble take on "Method") : If I were in THAT situation; how many licks WOULD it take to get too the tootsie-roll center of the Tootsie-Pop? Then there is the Issue of "The Phat Milk and Captain Crunch". As for me I jusyt though too myself: If I were to wear a retarded-looking pair of gym-shorts with no underwear, (..while hooked-up too a pair of jumper-cables)....Then I learned how to spell O.K.L.A.H.O.M.A. and left town.

This is why the city is in shambles because the mayor has a slave mentality. The people of the 9th district should see him for what he is. He doesn't care about African-Americans or anybody else for that matter. That statement about someone being "light-skinned" is so incredibly outdated. I hope that he does not get re-elected. He is very envious of the Fords especially Harold Sr. and Jr. Mr. Mayor maybe you can use some campaign funds to see a plastic surgeon.
