Re: “Cortona Contemporary Italian

Fantastic addition to C-Y! We had a large group last minute, and they accomodated us beautifully. I had a taste of everyone's dinner, but my favorite was the fish I ordered with asparagus risotto and my husband's meat lasagna. The triple chocolate cake is to DIE for! Can't remember the last time our whole group was so happy with our meal. Can't wait to go back!

Cozy restaurant. Great service. The staff was very friendly. After dinner we toured the building. Try the Gator bites. Beignets pretty good. There's no place like Cafe DuMonde in Nawlins but these mini beignets are a good substitute.

Re: “Sharky's Gulf Grill

Awesome tuna appetizer and a wonderful shrimp and grits. Didn't try the sushi but it looked amazing!

Re: “Bari Ristorante Enoteca

3 stars is being kind, but 2.5 stars was not available. My wife and I went there for our anniversary. Unlike the previous reviewer our OpenTable reservation was in the system and we were seated right away.
My main problem with this place is that you are required to order you entire dinner upon starting - meaning you order your appetizer, salad, entree, pasta all at the same time under he pretense that this enable a good flow of your meal. In practice this did work as we waited 20 minutes after our pasta course for our entrees and were no longer hungry.
Some items are priced accordingly, like their pastas which are very good and a good deal for the money, but their salads and veggie sides were pathetic for the price.
My wife ordered the whole Bronzino (fish)and immediately asked the waiter to fillet it for her. He immediately left and didn't return for another 10 minutes so the fish was already cold when he started. He then proceeded to mangles the filet job and left more bones than he took out.
At the end of the meal we mentioned all that we were not satisfied with, but the waiter just kind of nodded, and that was all the response we got from anyone. No manager to address our concerns, no apology from the server, NOTHING.
I would never go back to a place like this where the whims of the chef come before the pleasure for the diner.

Re: “Dino's Grill

Dino's is a Memphis institution! The food is homemade, the portions are generous, the prices are very affordable. The wait staff that is in there now, since Aug. 13th, is just FANTASTIC!

Re: “West Street Diner

This place is Americana in a nutshell. Downhome atmosphere, the friendliest staff, excellent food, big portions at a great price. The hours listed above are incorrect. They are open everyday for breakfast and lunch, and dinner mon. thru fri. The turkey and dressing is one of the absolute best entrees on the menu, as well as their sweet biscuits and homemade desserts. Not fancy, just really good.

Re: “Acre

I am still ooing and ahing a few weeks later over the pancetta risotto. Oh my word, it was excellent! The atmosphere and decor are utterly beautiful -- a "clean, well-lighted place" to be sure. I can't wait to go back.

Loved it!!! Had a realy hard time finding out about this place. I had trouble making a reservation as well. Couldn't find anywhere online to make a reservation and called like 5 times. Still worth it though

Re: “The Slider Inn

We ate at the Slider Inn on August 22 and despite the review above, we had GREAT food, and incredible service. The place was packed - inside and outside - but our waitress was very attentive. She said that it would take a while for our dinners - and they were delivered within 10 minutes! No need for apologies. The Sliders with blue cheese and carmelized onions were incredible and the regular sliders (they have a name, but it was ketchup, mayo, lettuce, tomatoe) were really good too. And the fries - TO DIE FOR!!! No complaints from us!

Re: “The Slider Inn

DANGER= the learning curve at the Midtowns newest hangout Slider Inn at Cooper and Peabody is sliding into oblivion. Everyone wants this place to succeed despite its extreemly slow service and the apparent neglect by the otherwise successful restaurant owner Aldo DeMartino who lives just two blocks from the establishment. This place has it, LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION just in the heart of an otherwise residential neighborhood. Walking distance to literally thousands of midtownees- they could serve frozen pizza and beer and do extremely well but for all concerned they have the damndest time getting even drinks to patrons. Is it the culture of the wait staff I must ask as they seem unaffected by customers who wait eagerly for any attention?? I say serve the lady a glass of wine- or whatever and the food orders can wait patiently. SMILE and take the sale- first impressions are indeed lasting. And if patrons must make it to the bar for service you should not be discouraged. Wait staff must sell themselves, they earn their living establishing rapport and are the truest representatives of their employer. Aldo please help this place, get rid of the old wait staff who rather be at their regular locals and get anxious bodys who want to make it happen here!!! Despite everthing you could actually screw this one up by not trying~

Re: “Abyssinia Restaurant

small portions, food was bland, injera was terrible.

Posted by sparky on 08/24/2011 at 10:57 AM

The food was better than the service, but I've received better service at a drive through fast food joint. The restaurant was understaffed and the complete lack of any management in the place ensures failure. The waitress, when she did come by would either snarl a reply or slam down a plate before running off to hide. I would be surprised if this place makes it past the new year.

Re: “Abuelo's Mexican Food Embassy

Abuelo's is the only place that makes a decent enchilada in Memphis, and the only non-bland Mexican food around. I'm not usually a fan of chain restaurants, but the service does not miss a beat, the salsa is really good, and the portions are generous. Trust me- I'm from south Texas, and I have eaten and prepared a lot of Mexican food. While this is not the best ever it is the best in the area.
