@FUNKbrs - Now that's an observation which I can get behind.

Re: “Whistle-Blower’s Crime

@Oak

If the truth hurts the state, there is something wrong with the state, not the truth.

Re: “Down by the Riverside

Folks in Memphis don't believe in public transit nor exercise. FUNKbrs, biking is not exhausting for you since you appear to be in good shape. I often bike commute 5 to 10 miles a day, and often take longer rides on weekends. You and I are the exceptions.

Re: “Down by the Riverside

I sure wish I made as much scratch as all those non-profit executives. If I had to give credit for the interest in the riverfront, it would be for Rick Dees back in the 70's and the folks that started Memphis in May. I'm beginning to think we have too much chefs (and high paid ones at that) in the kitchen.

Riverfront landing in cool and everything, but geez, 40 mill + for a one story structure and a floating dock -where was the oversight?

Re: “Riding Shotgun on Politics

Jen Clarke knocked it out of the park with this article, and I might have skipped over it in my Twitter feed were it not for the infamous "Gibson Donuts" sign every Memphian can appreciate.

I'll be more careful next time, thanks for making my day!

Re: “Mae Beavers for Governor?

LoveBC,
Fairly reasonable and finally scary. I see no reason why Beavers couldn't win the governorship. The moderates will cleave right for the votes and Mae will appear resolute.

Re: “Alexander to TVA: Don't Buy Wind Power

The rub here is that the rapid progress and innovation in this field will make any large scale investment obsolete before it is completed. If there was some way we could envision a system to build and let the innovation fill it

Re: “Mae Beavers for Governor?

OakTree, you are exactly right. I tend to fall in line with moderate republicans, which is basically means in my opinion being wary of big gov "initiatives" and sincerely believing most of us can take better care of ourselves than a bunch of faceless bureaucrats, and look how I get constantly reamed. Now Bill Clinton presented himself the same way, my dearly departed liberal democrat dad used to say Bill was the best republican president we ever had as a nation.

However, as an outdoorsy sort, I realize we cannot trash our planet, and I have no qualms with having a trans individual as a pee buddy and those two issues mean I can never be on the wacko right side, much like a working stiff democrat cannot tolerate career criminals being set loose way to soon because the wacko left believes that criminals are the victims, not the actually victims.

Now, maybe the Flyer and its readers will think I'm reasonable, but I ain't holding my breath.

Maybe the Beav is not as crazy as we think and her strategy is to allow the moderate republicans to cancel each other out, and she will be the last one standing. It kind of, sort of worked this way for the Donald. The statewide dem party is MIA in Tennessee, so who knows?

Re: “Alexander to TVA: Don't Buy Wind Power

With the efforts of Elon Musk to make solar roofs and a large battery a thing for all Americans, spending money to lock anything in is probably unwise. I agree with Alexander. The state of the art is too immature to buy into one specific technology as of yet.

Re: “Whistle-Blower’s Crime

@FUNKbrs - "..if the truth hurts you, there is something wrong with you, not the truth..."

This is manifestly incorrect, if the 'truth' is that you live under totalitarian control. In such a situation, the most dangerous thing an honest man can do, is articulate the truth. And this remains true, if the totalitarian state is disguised to outwardly resemble a democracy. Pointing at the 'Deep State' can be deadly dangerous. At the very least, you will be called a crank. But at the worst, you will find a series of negative consequences to your livelihood or even your life.

Ask Joe McCarthy. Or Joe Stalin.

Re: “Commissioner Roland Fires Back at Sen. Alexander on Wind Power

Lamar! also loves him some of that sweet cash from power generation companies that compete with wind, such as Exelon. Those flannel shirts get very expensive, you know.

Re: “Commissioner Roland Fires Back at Sen. Alexander on Wind Power

Lamar!'s opposition to wind energy is directly proportional to the money he takes from the fossil fuel industry, e.g. Murray Energy.

Clearly, Clean Line has not funneled enough dough to Lamar! and his fellow Republicans in Arkansas and Tennessee.

Re: “Whistle-Blower’s Crime

Why does it not surprise me to see that self-important vainglory is still, as ever, part of certain journalists' stock-in-trade? Apparently, they choose to ignore one of the fundamental tenets of their craft, namely that journalists should never make themselves part, much less all, of the story.
