I visited Memphis recently and stayed in a Motel near to this site. I was so intrigued by this building and grounds that I made a point to remember to look up what the origins were of the majestic buildings. Iam so glad to have found out, and I also think as A Rose stated you need to see and feel this place to really appreciate it. Although Iam disappointed that there is not a least one resident ghost. :) I just hope that any future proposals made for this site, keep the integrity of its history for future generations .

Living in Memphis, I would highly recomend zero or low-maintenance plants such as bluebeard flowers or nandina shrubs which are beautiful and extremely hardy plants that can take heat and cold.

Ahhh! I love the smell of Green in the air. Thanks for the article - it's great to hear about the environmentally friendly work people are doing in Memphis. It's great to see commercial builders investing in these technologies - knowing there are future home-owners wanting to buy more environmentally sustainable homes.

Are the builders designing these homes with future expansion in mind? Just imagine the possibilities if you could, down the road, further expand these homes on your own simply by using your own recycled garbage. As you know, home garbage re-use techniques have greatly improved since Prince Mongo's early groundbreaking experiments, which resulted in mixed results (and civil fines).

This is truly a remarkable place. One needs to see it to appreciate the beauty of the land, the majesty of the river and the history of the site. Mr. Crews is a visonary and an asset to Memphis and the community. I wish him well in his endeavor.

Mr Crews could not have captured a better statement than his remarking about this being the best time for his phenomenal project in the article by Mr. Akers. No one could have said it better than of course, in the famous Styx song, "We'll take the best, forget the rest and someday we'll find these are the best of times". The best way to live is with peace and serenity and what more could one ask for than to own a part of the vision and dreams of this upscale and sophisticated, historical southern charm that this Desota Project developement seems to illuminate with the wonderous charm of the amenities such as an elegant-relaxing pool, a New Orleans style courtyard, the magnificant lush trees and plant life, not to mention the breathtaking view of the nearby. Every home selling situation is different. This concept may work well for some, but not for all. I do like the idea... especially for those who want to sell quickly. Shady Grove school is not a good school. People should want in the area because of White Station. The home needs to be updated more than carpet and windows. There are nicer homes in the area for less money. You need to find more comparables. I would not pay 189 K for such a grossly outdated home with few upgrades.

"...$189 K for a 4br/2ba - that is not above market value at all imo. especially if it's in White station school dist..." Regardless of what you're told by a realtor it's a buyers market right now and homes have to be sold for a reasonable price from the start otherwise it will sit on the market for many weeks if not months. There are so many homes on the market nationwide...and breaking even is pretty much at best what sellers will get right now with the economy in a massive slump. Home prices were inflated for far too long and now the market is out of control. Beautifully updated homes sell for less than 189k-----let's compare apples to apples.
