Re: “Shelby Legislator Lovell Resigns

@ mejjep, naw, repubs are not known for strong moral ethics either. Ole Bill was just slick enough to get away with it. There is no way to prove it, but I suspect Hillary lost some votes because she touted feminist rhetoric but stood by her philandering husband and even attacked his victims.

Nobody has the right to sexually molest someone else.

Re: “Shelby Legislator Lovell Resigns

If the allegations of touching are true, Lovell was wrong. If true, Lovell should have fessed up, asked for forgiveness, and then resigned

If the allegations of touching are untrue, and Lovell resigned, he was wrong for resigning.

I hate to see him lose his morals the same way all those campaign signs disappeared into the trunk of a Mercedes.

Re: “How Smugglers Will Circumvent Trump's Wall

Did you know that people found to be living illegally in Mexico are fined at the rate of 100 days of pay at the minimum wage rate?

Did you know that in Mexico persons with no skills, experience or education would be allowed residence? They have a point system based on these three criteria.

Nightcrawler, Sam Nunn has agreed with your post in public. The 1992 version of Bill was smart enough to "triangulate"

Nick, the question you need to ask yourself is "What did BHO know and when did he know it?"

Re: “How Smugglers Will Circumvent Trump's Wall

I this case CL, it wouldn't be a small fine. I think what he means is large scale asset seizure, kinda like the DEA et. al. does already.

BPS is helping the Pinch fight back. Having a major hospital also in the same area should help. I just hope the ever shrinking MPD can keep the thugs at bay.

Re: “Shelby Legislator Lovell Resigns

Grove,
Of course in the world we used to live in a lynch mob hung and burned people. Or invaded countries and killed hundreds of thousands. I'd say the social justice warriors are relatively soft core. But wrong is wrong.

Grove,
"The only people paying for the solution at that point would be the companies that were choosing to break the law in order to save a buck."
So not a chance in hell of that happening?

Re: “Shelby Legislator Lovell Resigns

@FUNK,

I agree on the lynch mob mentality. It's the new way though. If you're accused of something, or worse, if you step out of line and say something that offends someone, the lynch mob comes out to try to get you fired from your position via public pressure. It has groups and businesses quick on the trigger with anything these days just to avoid the lynch mob.

See the University of Missouri "racism" issues that led to the resignation of the chancellor and the President of the entire system. Those issues turned out to be a bunch of nothing and overreaction, but because the social justice warriors came out in full force, people had to lose their jobs, even though they couldn't have done anything differently or better than they did.

It's the world we live in these days.

Re: “How Smugglers Will Circumvent Trump's Wall

Back on topic, I'm with CL. Just enforce the laws. You don't need laws.

In fact, I think we could go further by increasing the penalty for using illegal labor, and then you could reward local law enforcement offices by letting them keep the majority of the penalty money for any and all businesses that they catch using illegal labor.

You'd have illegal labor task forces on every local police force in the country within the year, and they'd be cracking down on the businesses.

No need to deport illegals either. They'll either self-deport due to lack of companies willing to hire them, or they'll take whatever path to citizenship is available. No need for a wall either, because if companies aren't willing to risk hiring illegals, people won't be flocking over the border looking for work. They'll be seeking the LEGAL path to immigration. Problem solved, and you do it while having it be a net revenue positive to the government, not a negative.

The only people paying for the solution at that point would be the companies that were choosing to break the law in order to save a buck.

Brichy, that's not a thesis statement, it's a diagnostic criteria.

Yes, Mia, there is. Not only did Obama send his future ambassador to Russia for a closed door meeting before he was first elected, but those other puritanical bastards that just ruin everything have failed again and Playboy is bringing back the nudes.

LoveBC has such a hard-on for Cohen, that should Steve pull a nun out of the path of a runaway bus, Lovebc would accuse him of interfering with mass transportation and religious freedom.

Remember that time Nashville tried to strip the Pinch District of it's historic designation in the National Register of Historic Places?

Nice to see the Pinch fighting back!

Publicly claiming another man's daughter as your own is much lower. Steve needs to apologize to the Frank, Jr. estate.

Re: “Shelby Legislator Lovell Resigns

A person accused of a crime has a right to a trial before they are treated as guilty.

It's the only reasonable way to deal with accusations of a criminal nature.

Forming a lynch mob over an accusation without any serious investigation is always wrong.

If history teaches anything, it's that lynching, lynchmob mentality, and witch hunting are always, always wrong. The court of public opinion is notoriously bad about determining factual guilt. The court of public opinion declared Iraq at fault for 9-11, for example.

Emmett Till was falsely accused of sexual assault.

Consensually cheating on your wife could be considered inappropriate touching in republican circles.

I will say, however, that only a scalded dog howls, and Lovell is definitely acting guilty. I'd like to believe he wouldn't do anything fully criminal, but I could be wrong.
