Re: “Letter From the Editor

"It is far too late for electing different officials to make a difference in Memphis. Memphis is already done. Had corrective action been taken 10 years ago, or 20 years ago, something perhaps could be done. Now it is too late. Unable to pay its debts, Memphis will eventually seek a referendum to dissolve its city government. Shelby County and the suburbs will fight it. If the suburbs win, Memphis will file for bankruptcy. If the suburbs lose, Memphis will go out of existence, basically forcing a consolidated city and county government. Whites and middle-class Blacks will vote with their feet, and the whole county, suburbs and Memphis alike will soon resemble Memphis, broke and indebted beyond repair, with infrastructure crumbling and blight and crime everywhere."
======================

My thinking, exactly, there is nothing which can turn Memphis around in time to avoid a Detroit like fate.

There are some situations where democracy is obviously not an ideal political system. Memphis happens to be one of these places. The electorate is tainted beyond repair. I mean, ... you're talking about people so dumb, and morally compromised, they vote people back in office who have been convicted of financial felonies in the performance of their duties as an elected official for the City of Memphis. ... The Rickey RePeeter fiasco. Voted back in the same job when he's released from the Federal Joint for taking bribes as a public official,

They voter Ex-Mayor Bill as mayor in 5 elections, as he got fat and rich while the city was sliding downhill. Ophelia Ford gets returned to office fo a job which she rarely shows up for. I could spend all night doing this, but what's it solve???

Memphis is certainly done, and it's the fault of the electorate.

Re: “Park Name Change Lawsuit Ruling Expected Soon

If you want to see Americas future go to Memphis = the last time I was there I got robbed. A whole city full of illegitimate fatherless black children that are learning how to be criminals.

Re: “The CA Sale: A View from Milwaukee

@Sleepy

I do. I know exactly what passes for liberalism.

So, tell us what, exactly, in your own words, did McCarthy do wrong and why would you consider it still relevant today.

Charlie,

to be exact, that is from Gary DeMar...president of American Vision. I have posted it before, but just forgot to give credit. Thanks for pointing this out.

Re: “City Rolling Out New Recycling Carts

The carts are nice and it was immediately clear our household was recycling more. I do wish the carts were better made though. First time mine was picked up the bar in front used by the truck to pick up the can broke out of the setting (and there's no way to get that thing back in). I saw others with the same problem and yesterday saw one on the street that had a wheel missing.

I created an issue with the sanitation department two weeks ago. I just hope this was a bad batch and not having to recycle the new recycling cans and going back to the smaller bin.

Re: “Robata Ramen & Yakitori Bar

I'm with you Jeff. Four cherry tomatoes with melted American cheese? That's their idea of Yakitori? No thanks! Susan, please let us know when they get a new chef.

Saw the Snafu Cluster open for Talking Heads in '83. They were insane. The drummer was so messed up on something that he quit playing and started dry-humping the lead singer.

Re: “Robata Ramen & Yakitori Bar

Four cherry tomatoes topped with a slice of American cheese for $2.95? Three asparagus stems (no tips) for $2.50?

Oh my.

How much do that charge for that half a mushroom and third of an eggplant?

I know. I'm just a h8r.

Re: “AFSCME Local 1733 Board Agrees: No Endorsements in the 9th

Bueno couldn't have corrected ICarewhatever any better! Clearly ICare is one of these Wilkins/Herenton goons that are either completely ignorant to the facts or knowingly choose to spew misinformation all over local and social media. It's no secret that Wilkins has taken more money from impoverished Memphians than he has brought or given (if any at all) to Memphians. In fact, much of his ill-gotten gains are a matter of public record.

You say Wilkins is better and will do things differently, yet he hasn't raised a single issue where Cohen has mishandled anything ... Oh wait, I forgot about the police/fire benefit debacle caused by the Mayor and City Council. Let's not gloss over or forget where this massive shortcoming in city budget comes from: the good ole' glory days of Herenton who, by the way, is arguably one of Wilkins' biggest endorsements. This decline we've experienced in Memphis is largely due in part to people like Wilkins and Herenton making terrible (and many times greedy) decisions.

It's funny that "we" need to take care of veterans. I wonder what YOU have done to take care of veterans? Are you a veteran? On what basis do you make the claim that Steven Cohen hasn't done anything for vets? Cohen's office has personally helped me and other servicemen and women that I know immensely on VA and other veteran issues. As a partially disabled veteran who has lived in the 9th most of my life, I can say with certainty that Steven Cohen is the ONLY person in Memphis, other than my family, who has offered any help to me with veterans' issues. But sure, continue to spout your keywords and talking points.

By all means, ICare and friends, climb up on the Titanic. Keep playing the world's saddest song on your fiddle as you go down with the ship. I'm certain the constituency will choose the right person. Send us a postcard from the bottom on Aug. 7th.

Re: “The CA Sale: A View from Milwaukee

I have found that if a story connects two cities: the Milwaukee / CA connection or the Brooks Museum resignation / Cincinnati connection that I can always find better journalistic reporting by seeking out the media in the other city. Which of course is a shame.

Re: “AFSCME Local 1733 Board Agrees: No Endorsements in the 9th

I should think both men would be happy to not receive the endorsement of this posse of clowns. And after the primary, when they announce their decision for the general election, a curt "Thanks" would be all they got out of me.

Re: “Letter From the Editor

Ricky made 3.2 million dollars from Linebarger.FACT!End of story.
Poorest city. Responsibility spread but mostly Willie Herenton Ricky's mentor and giver of finders fee opportunities. Also history of the Delta. Were Fords responsible?is AC?Hackett ?
In Congress its not bills passed but budget amendments and grants etc. However Cohen has passed more bills(4) than any of his pedeceasors
Ricky campaign is code not substance

Re: “AFSCME Local 1733 Board Agrees: No Endorsements in the 9th

Icare: Rep. Cohen really lives in Memphis and does a great job for Memphis. His amendment for 5 million dollars added rape kit money was legislative brilliance;he supports Vets and has voted for Vet bills(like yesterday)and got Jay Robinson as our VA administrator;Re:poverty he got first ever Minority Business Center in Tn. and holds regular federal procurement fares and votes Kenseyan and progressive.
Who is responsible for backlog of rape kits and poverty ?More Ricky's mentor Willie Herenton than anyone.18 years Mayor and decade as School Super.
What's Ricky been doing all this while? Lining his pockets with finders fee millions from the poor(tax collection sham) via Willie and from Beale Street sham(4 million $) and for twindling his thumbs at the charter commission(15000 a month via George Brown)
Cohen is the best not just for Memphis but for the USA!!!

Re: “AFSCME Local 1733 Board Agrees: No Endorsements in the 9th

Cohen sees previous support walking/running away. It's time the 9th district gets effective representation from one who can work well with others and actually cares about the people who comprise it. Go Wilkins!

Re: “Letter From the Editor

Ghost, when you get your facts straight, maybe your comments will make more sense.

So, let's start with the facts.
1. Mr. Wilkins is running on a well rounded platform. Check out his website at rickywilkinsforcongress.com.

2. He has NEVER injected race into this campaign, although your candidate did - in the worst, most insulting way ever. You remember the Pearl ad that you guys tried to squash? Accountable Politics posted it on YouTube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6n4GtXFAWk.

3. Mr. Wilkins never made ONE PENNY on the Linebarger tax collections.

4. With Mr. Wilkins' pedigree, he could have lived anywhere in the country, but CHOSE to return to work and serve in his hometown.

5. Mr. Cohen, on the other hand has to read the papers to know what legislation we need and has managed to pass only 2 bills.

6. Mr. Cohen now represents the poorest metropolitan city of its size - and that slide occurred during his representation.

7. Mr Cohen leads the Tennessee delegation in special interest and voter funded travel.

8. Mr. Cohen has lived off the government for several decades now, but has become a millionaire - go figure.

Shall I continue, or have you had enough?
