Re: “Report: New Zoo Lot Would Take an Acre of Greensward

3million dollars would go a very long way towards building a garage that the zoo and ALLl patrons of Overton Park could use. Spending that money in any other way is a total waste and very shortsighted. Personally, I resent the belittling name calling of Midtown residents and the fact that our city council refuses to represent us . The local citizens have made it very clear that we want our Greensward saved. Our local wishes and needs should be listened to and placed above the occasional out -of -towners' who come in from Arkansas or Mississippi to visit the zoo.We pay taxes and we vote. It's really very simple. If the zoo needs extra parking 65 days out of the year and we the people need the Greensward 365 days out of the year then whose needs are greater ? We do not want our park turned into a parking lot! Build the garage and get it over with. $3 million is a great start.

Re: “Thousands Join Memphis Women's March

I agree with Oak in so much that the establishment long ago figured out that if they don't assault the crowds as they did 40-50 years ago and if they continue their oppressive course unaffected there tends to be a dwindling.
So civil disobedience tailored to a specific action, (without bringing hardship on working people) and thereby resulting in mass arrests and the inevitable beatings that the media loves is one course.

Re: “'Unacceptable:'Just City Files $10M Suit Against Jail

I once had an older Jailer tell me and a room full of disgruntled prisoners who all had their bonds posted but were just waiting after processing that the real reason it takes forever to get out of 201 is because the workers are lazy. He said (and i know his name, but I'll not put it on front street) "you think that these people working in processing would let their kin sit in here for 12 to 24 hours after their bond has been paid? hell no, they'd be out within the hour." It's a joke that insults the intelligence of anyone who's ever been through the jail for them to blame the obnoxious wait times to get processed out on a new computer system. The obnoxious amount of time it takes to get processed out of 201 Poplar is an on-going joke. Everyone who has ever gone through there before knows that it takes at least half a day to get processed out, if you do everything as soon as you get in the system. It takes just as long if you've been in the jail for days or weeks and finally make bond.
Bottomline is the workers in processing don't get a shit if you get out or not, they just wanna get through another shift and leave the work for the next shift. Unfortunately I've had to get out of 201 more times than I can count and I've never ever gotten out sooner than 12 hours after whatever action was taken to release me was performed, be it, release for time served, release on bond, or release to another facility. Furthermore, if the general citizenry with a heart for the fair treatment of human-kind, especially given that inmates at 201 are often not convicted of anything, they are just accused, knew of the conditions that exist inside the jail they would be appalled. Appalled that their tax dollars go to running such a poor excuse for a justice center. Appalled that the government would think that it is correct to treat human beings so poorly with the outrageously poor excuse for food that Aramark (one of the biggest swindlers of tax and government money) provides and the poor excuse for medical treatment for the mentally and physically ill that passes for correct and appropriate.

Maxine Strawder, name misspelled in article, is also a retired librarian. Educated people of any race are considering dangerous.

Re: “The Past for the Future

As a descendant of Elbert Williams I can attest to the fear and pain that is passed down through generations after such a tragedy. I am very grateful for the work and commemorative efforts Mr. Ashworth and others have put forth in honor of our family's victim of domestic terror.

@datGuy - Your actions here are immoral, Pete. Assuming the worst of people without having knowledge of them is immoral. You do it all the time. You should stop.

The rest of it, again, whatever.

Re: “PODCAST: Two Flyer Guys and the Portland Protests

You said nonsense, I ignored it

I said something, you decided to parse it due to your lack of understanding of a word.

You said "And that's wrong. It's immoral. Your actions".
You said "I don't think you are evidencing the reasonable character that I would expect from you."

You expect something good out of that? You haven't acknowledged your errors, your hyperbole, your sanctimony. It may not be very reasonable, but it's more reasonable than you.

Practice what you preach.

I don't think datGuy could understand reasonable if it came up and bit him on the hindquarters. His posts are almost always lacking in insight and hyperbolic. You give him way too much credit.

Wow... the hostility is palpable... Sure man. Believe what you want.

But you can't characterize what you are doing now as being reasonable. It's not.

Re: “PODCAST: Two Flyer Guys and the Portland Protests

oak, you are amusing.

I didn't say "Liberals in Portland tore up their town", YOU did!. So now do you mean only a few?. I can then say soldiers are baby killers?, muslims are terrorists?, or conservatives are liars without need for qualification? More of Oaks Monday Morning QB meaninglessness.

"But you didn't say he was wrong. You said he was 'lying'." AND "That's not lying. That's just being wrong" ........Yes I did.

Here's the 3rd definition of the word LIE at "an inaccurate or false statement; a falsehood".

There is nothing to double down on as it is an accurate use of the English language. It is a bit of hyperbole on your part...again. Don't forget ..."let's be civil".

I have not claimed all conservatives did anything, that all Trump supporters or even all of Trump's staff did anything. I did comment that Trump's press secretary lied. It is quite simply a fact. Even the WSJ acknowledges it being baseless "What data there is doesnt support Mr. Spicers statement".

On to the double down, I acknowledged to using a broad brush. Just like the media in question apologized for the bust issue. People of character acknowledge when they are wrong, Spicer has not and neither have you.

Given your fondness for bible verses.

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"

I will just presume you didn't know the definition of the word lie before, now you do.

I do suggest you try practicing what you preach.
