Re: “Schedule for Local Democrats' Reorganization Efforts

Interesting. You might want to reference that, CL. I don't think a lot of people caught you.

Funk,
Your narrative would be better if you claimed descent from the Pick rather than Pinch.

Re: “Schedule for Local Democrats' Reorganization Efforts

@CL

You have to have money to be gentry, lol.

No, I'm just one of the last vestiges of Memphis Pinch Irish Culture slowly being wiped from the history books in order to create a false racial dichotomy that only encompasses black and white with no shades between, running to the front lines of war against the gentry as a spy using my not-quite-white heritage to infiltrate their formations.

Let's face it, most of the people in the Comments section don't live in Memphis.

The fact there are so few of us left is all you need to know about the Nashville Pogrom against us.

They've been so successful they've even completely destroyed our political arm, the Shelby County Democratic Committee, effectively binding and gagging us as they pillage our traditional homeland.

Besides, I haven't seen Bricky around, and I gotta take up some of his slack.

I think moving juvenile delinquents from Wilder in Somerville to Willie Herenton's treatment campuses is going to be a disaster.

Funk,
So you abandoned the good people of Raleigh and joined the hipster front lines of gentrification. The realtors depend on you guys and what do you get in return? Well I guess you get out of Raleigh.

Re: “Schedule for Local Democrats' Reorganization Efforts

@AP
If I cared about my credibility, I would write articles (poorly), not tilt at windmills in their comments sections.

The fact is that the state legislature ran on racist tickets that expressed racist agendas popularly supported by their racist constituents.

Dumocracy/mob rule at it's best, I suppose.

However, the fact stands that contempt for Federal government is a large part of white southern cultural identity. The Trail of Tears was illegal too, but it was immensely popular among settlers of pure european descent. I have no doubt Andrew Jackson's constituents roared in approval at his defiance of the Supreme Court when he said "John Marshall has made his decision; now let him enforce it.

To some extent this attitude of contempt for Federal law may have led to the Civil War, and seems to continue to this day. Hell, contempt for the law was one of the main reasons to come to the Wild West to begin with.

Technically quite a few wars have been illegal, in face of that a little property devaluation is a pittance, especially considering before that extra judicial lynching was the most popular policy for managing racial tensions.

Two or more people acting in concert to intentionally devalue part of the citizenry's property, based on "arbitrary and unrelated" factors is a violation of a number of laws, manifestly in violation of the equal protection clause in the Constitution, and is by definition a conspiracy to break those laws. Need i point out that your constant harping on slavery ( which in contrast was legal at the time, no matter how morally wrong) is not helping your credibility?

Re: “Schedule for Local Democrats' Reorganization Efforts

@AP

If appraisers are all doing it, it would be the exact opposite of a conspiracy.

It would just be a standard public policy.

Slavery wasn't a conspiracy either; neither was sharecropping. Both were also state sanctioned, but more importantly, both were immoral despite being legal.

Saying the Democratic Party of Shelby Co. is falling suddenly is like saying someone with a chronic heart condition for 30 years had a stroke "suddenly".

That's about as sudden as a tree falling after hours of work for the chopping axe.

Re: “Schedule for Local Democrats' Reorganization Efforts

@Funk

If you are right that these appraisers are intentionally devaluing the homes of black people, that is criminal.

If they are all doing it, it is by definition a conspiracy, and we must find out high the conspiracy goes. maybe all the way to the top.

If it is also being done to hurt the Shelby County Democratic Party, that is nefarious and not in keeping with our values as a people.

Or maybe you were not really serious about this being the reason the Shelby County Democratic Party fell so quickly?

Re: “Schedule for Local Democrats' Reorganization Efforts

@AP

Sadly, as a Memphian, the only way I can affect your property values is to make them decrease even more by moving in next to you.

I would say I've uncovered a conspiracy, except for one extremely important qualifier:

The word "conspiracy" intimates what was done was hidden.

However, the overtly racist policies of the Spirit of '76 were extremely public and extremely popular. Racism wasn't just widespread secretly, but was publicly proclaimed. The Dukes of Hazard's racist paint job on the General Lee was one of the most popular elements of the show.

Lot of (stupid) people think racism makes a lot of sense, and they don't bother to hide it, either.

Look at the MS state flag. Ain't nobody hiding the South is racist as hell. That means it's not an exciting conspiracy requiring initiation into secret knowledge reserved only for the elite to uncover.

It's just an incredibly stupid plan that has backfired horribly.

Re: “Schedule for Local Democrats' Reorganization Efforts

@Funk

Could be you have uncovered a major conspiracy.

Seems to me intentionally (intentionally, mind you) reducing the value of homes for political gain is an outrage and probably criminal as well. Sounds like a RICO case to me.

I sure hope that you will not let this matter rest. Remember that doing nothing in the face of evil is becoming part of that evil.

Get Jackson Baker of this immediately. Such nefarious conduct on part of real estate appraisers, licensed by the State, no less, must not be allowed to continue to victimize black people and the Shelby County Democratic Party. And while you are at it, my property in Arlington was reduced in value , too. Can you help me with that?

Re: “Schedule for Local Democrats' Reorganization Efforts

@apop

It's almost as if destabilizing Shelby County keeps Shelby Co. Democrats from gaining a foot hold in the TN state legislature

And how was Shelby destabilized? By State licensed real estate appraisers acting under State authority to reduce the value of properties based on arbitrary and unrelated factors (read: Intentionally devaluing the homes of blacks and homes near blacks)

So what relationship does racism and gentrification have on a destabilized Shelby County Democratic party?

Cause and effect.

Actually, I doubled down on Memphis and moved to Tha 'Bush after I left Raleigh. Then I quadrupled down on Memphis and moved to Crosstown. I'm currently set at octuple Memphis levels as I currently live south of the tracks in Cooper Young.

The one positive is that I think Conley may finally be earning his first All-Star bid next year by the way he's playing right now.

This is the time most of the national guys will see him, and he's putting on a show. This is the best I've ever seen him play.

Re: “No New Taxes in Mayor's New Budget

Wait... no new taxes.... (I've heard that one before)
...but new "fees"...?

A tax is a tax, whether it be a percentage or a one time fee.

How stupid does Strickland think we are? Why can't we just admit we raise taxes when we raise taxes? And who are the real estate who just magically increase the market values of property after gentrifiers buy it at a steal? Why weren't they held responsible (they are state licensed after all) when they magically decreased property values? Last time I checked when you buy a house, you don't get to own the house next to yours. Why is it legal that the value of the house next to yours affects the value of yours?

Re: “Disunity

Whenever there is the chance for a county commission or a city council to increase their power and available patronage funds by fiat, you know they're gonna bite that bait. It's as predictable as mosquitos going after your blood every summer. Thing is, the only thing to swat 'em on the nose with is legal proceedings. And that takes considerable time and money. So what happens next is liable to be a court crawl, with an uncertain and hazy outcome.
