understanding the metaphor "Father Time"
Joe your show was awesome, we were the ones from Indiana and saw your show on Sept 29 th. Your show made our trip so much better. We laughed and cried, and we are still talking about your show.
It can be described as your favorite Holiday meal ….maybe those favorite jeans that you can’t part with….or the touch of someone that makes you feel complete. When you listen to Will Graves and Soul that’s exactly what you get, is all the above and TRUE Soul music. You see it happen to me one day walking in downtown Memphis and a window was open to this club…..if you ever wondered what falling in love sounds like then Will Graves and Soul can paint a audible portrait for you. The band is a mixture of the elements of the EARTH meets Sweetback ….the host of lead/background singers are a force that angels envy…and Will’s vision and home cooked Soul music bring it all together. If you haven’t heard them in a while or ever do yourself a favor and let Will Grave’s and Soul welcome you home……Christopher.
Memphis had a Hollywood-style world premiere of the dream child of Memphis own Julius Lewis: N-SECURE. It was a who's who of Memphis including the majority of the cast members. This is one of the first authentic movies that I have ever seen with a real taste of Memphis as a backdrop. I knew the street scenes, the restaurants, the office buildings, and many of the extras in the movie. Unlike the TV and other film projects based on Memphis but shot in New Orleans, Atlanta, etc.
Julius Lewis made sure he got as many scenes and names related to Memphis as he could down to the Stax jacket. I have never been so proud of Memphis since Isaac Hayes did 'SHAFT!'
N-Secure was really well cast and the acting was right on. The plot is one that many women can relate to. Fellows I am telling you now don't let these women see this movie and you don't get to check it out. This movie will be talked about and discussed all over the country. As a matter of fact, I think EVERYONE who is from Memphis or ever-lived in Memphis should check this film out.
On Friday, October 15 I am going to see this film again and I encourage ALL of my fellow Memphians to do the same. Let's make Friday, October 15 MEMPHIS FILM DAY! Let's help to make this a #1 movie the first week out so that we can show the world that MEMPHIS REPRESENTS!

This book is awesome!! I just bought it, and really like the recipes I have tried so far. The chicken pot pie is my favorite so far.
LOL!! Bianca, I just gotta laugh--defensiveness for our precious Adam abounds!! I love that you love Adam, but gotta say, most Adam fans don't wanna keep hearing about the AMA's because that is the performance most thrown in our faces when we speak of Adam! I love that you are trying to honor his courage, but most of us are ready to move on. Just saw my fourth Glamnation Tour in Tunica, MS and I am still reeling from the bliss. The man is a gift to the world--most just don't know it yet. And that's fine with me! I just wanna savor that gift because Adam is a gift that keeps on giving. So much joy, so much love, so much power in one package! I am overwhelmed with gratitude for his part in my life. And I'm going to continue to enjoy every moment of his career!!!
I wrote this piece, and for the record, I am not homophobic in the least. I actually maintain the LGBT blog (Memphis Gaydar) right here on the Memphis Flyer website. I also cover LGBT issues for the paper. I'm a huge Adam Lambert fan. I went to show over the weekend. It was fabulous. I'm even wearing my Adam Lambert shirt at the office right now. I chose to write about the AMA performance because that was Adam's first major show, and what he did there was very admirable. Pushing the envelope is a positive thing. I loved him on American Idol, but that AMA performance made me respect him even more.
SAW ADAM'S SHOW LAST NIGHT AT HARRAHS & AS I EXPECTED...... TOTALLY FREAKIN AMAZING !! JUST AS AMAZING AS WHEN I SAW HIM IN NASHVILLE. ADAM GIVES %100. HE IS SO BEAUTIFUL !
This not an article, this it a hit piece. Oh Bianca, time to live a little girl. Escape from the restraints and confinements of your own making, and dance a little. You'll feel better joining the party rather than sitting on the sideline secretly wishing you could.
ADAM LAMBERT is very much LOVED in TEXAS,i know i am here,he sold 90% of tickets for his Dallas show and got a great review in the Dallas Morning News...his Houston show at the Hobby Center SOLD OUT!!!,over 2,600 people were there,i know i was in the 6th row from the stage...There was a tidal wave love for this young man that night,we stood,sang,clapped,screamed....we drank from his cup and we could not get enough...HOUSTON created it own IIHY video in that hall on Sept.8,ADAM LAMBERT needed no trees to dance around,he had us....hep.
this isn't just about this article, it's to all the articles that just can not seem to get over the 1 yr ago (one time performance only) of the ama awards.! The rest of the world is laughing at us and ask yourselves when your still talking about it 5 years from now and adam is a mega superstar just how foolish you all look!
Okay, this is getting so old. A little research, guys. Do you want us to send you hundreds of performances since then that you can discuss? Do you want interviews? Still photos? Reports on the almost $500,000 dollars Adam and his fans have raised for donorschoose.org? Of course you don't !!! Just stick with those AMAs, it's easier and sleazier. That's fine, be part of the itsy bitsy minority who embarrass the rest of the American public with your predjudice, your inability to LET IT GO !!!
Oh, and have a nice day.
Excuse me! "Texas is clearly know for being anti-gay?"
If you live in Winnipeg then you really actually know nothing about Texas or as we Texans like to say "You are talking out of your a**. Are there people here that are anti-gay? Definitely. Bet you have a few of those in Winnipeg too. Saw Adam in Dallas last year on Idol tour. It was very evident that most of the crowd was there to watch Adam. Adam was in Texas again this week but I was unable to attend, so we drove to Oklahoma to watch the concert. The venue was sold out and I kept running into Texans who had just seen Adam perform in Dallas and then driven to Ok. to see him again. The two people sitting next to me at the concert were from Dallas and have seen Adam perform six times on the tour. During the concert Adam asked how many people were from Texas. There were more people there from Texas than Oklahoma. Before you make sweeping statements about Texas why don't you just come on down and attend an Adam concert with us and find out how things really are here. Here's a thought. Canadians are known for not having a sense of humour. I live in Texas and even I know that, but then again I've never been to Canada. Maybe I'm just wrong. Glam on Adam! Texas loves you!!
This writer is narrow minded. Her review focuses on something that happened almost a year ago. Since then, his album has sold a million plus copies world wide and has SOLD OUT 70 concerts in the US. His international tour is also SOLD OUT. Adam Lambert has achieved critical, as well as, popular acclaim. He is the first American Idol contestant to headline their own tour right out of the gate. But why be a real journalist and mention those facts.....Instead, fall back on the tried and true AMAs! Lazy writer with a bigoted agend.
Congratulations to the nominee finalists in the various leadership categories. NHPO Memphis members and supporters nominated include: FedEx, International Paper, Latino Memphis, Lucia Heros, Shawn Wilkins Sr., Francisco Cervantes
Hello Author of this article,
I know you wanted your article to be commented by as many people as possible and you found the best NEGATIVE way of getting there: a negative comment about Adam.
You were smart: you did not say anything negative about Adam so nobody can blame you. However, Adam’s activity/career building IS WAY BIGGER AND WAY MORE SUCCESSFUL than that (one year old) AMA performance that you pointed out. Mean while, Adam proved to be a very professional, talented, VERY LOVED and career focused artist and—most of all- a great POSITIVE personality. ADAM IS A VERY NICE PERSON IN ALL POINTS OF VIEW. The simple fact that you did not mention anything about his career realizations (and there are a lot considering he is on this business for 1 year) except for the AMA --MAKES YOU A NEGATIVE PERSON. I have to acknowledge you try hard to hide you negative approach towards ADAM but IT DID NOT WORK. We are smart enough to “read “you.
ADAM ROCKS OUR WOURLD, REGARDLESS NARROW MINDED PEOPLE’S OPINION.
It's been my pleasure to attend 2 Glamnation Concerts and plan on attending the one in Tunica. Never in my life have I heard better vocals. Never saw better dancing and showmanship. Adam's message of love and acceptance of everyone regardless of race, color and yes, sexual preferance is to be commended. I wish other musical artists would Sing more about this than the racially charged and violent messages that they insist on. Come get some glitter from the rest of the Glamberts and enjoy the show!
Here's a thought - This concert is in Texas. Texas is clearly known for being anti-gay. We all know that. I live in Winnipeg, Canada and I know that. Adam gets kudos for performing there in the first place. He will put on his show and the review in tomorrow's paper in Texas will be amazing. They will have to speak the truth about how awesome the show was. Maybe this will help some Texans realize their narrow-minded views are so yesterday. Homosexuality is not as taboo as before. Acceptance is sweeping across the US, perhaps slowly but it is. Eventually Texas will have to embrace this way of life like the rest of the world has. Adam performing there is a way to bring on the acceptance sooner. Since his AMA performance he has appeared on countless tv shows, radio, award shows (in Canada too) and his image has been spotless. He comes across as very articulate, friendly, warm, respectful, kind, beautiful both physically and spiritually one hell of a nice guy. Everyone in the entertainment field speaks highly of him. This is the image that will continue to shine, not the 2009 AMA awards performance. Let's sit back and enjoy his ride with him.
OMG I'm so sick of this being brought up over and over again. It was a year ago, get OVER it. Can you name another artist out there today doing 70+ cities in 3 months and selling OUT every venue. That speaks volumns. I'm not saying you said anything negative , but indirectly your homophopia attitude is really apparent!
Re: “An Evening with the Richard Thompson Band”
CH,
I could not shake your Clapton comparison last night. It reinforced my enthusiasm for Bruce/Baker and Whitlock/Duane. I love Cream and Derek, but given Clapton's lazy subsequent output, I have only contempt for the guy. Clapton never played like that.
Thompson's song craft and lyrical soloing are of a much higher order. Last night was a demonstration of showmanship, composition and technical brilliance WAY beyond Clapton's abilities or ambition.
The show was so good. But your comparison made me sad!
Major respect to the sound guy, who kept it from being too loud.
Hard to come up with a better Tuesday.
