Re: “Trump's Acceptance Address Aimed Beyond the GOP Base

@datguy,

More or less than Hillary has lied today?

It's a shame that this is the best our country can do, Trump v. Clinton. We should all be embarrassed.

Re: “Donald the Great

According to Nate Silver, Trump has either pulled nearly even or pulled slightly ahead of Clinton.

I have been discounting Trump's chances for a while, but I'm starting to think he's got a real shot, especially with all the DNC leak stuff that's come out. I also hear there is more to come.

I know that the media will either downplay or avoid reporting on it altogether if they can. We can see from the leaks that quite a few of the major media outlets are not just liberal biased, but they're in the pocket of the DNC directly. Therefore, I expect little to be made of it, outside of Fox News or a few other conservative leaning outlets.

However, I am starting to believe that some of that will start to pile up on Clinton, and with Trump surging recently, that could swing things in his direction. I still have a hard time wrapping my brain around that potential outcome, but I don't believe we can consider this a slam dunk for Hillary anymore at all, nor should we.

I still wonder how so many people can consider voting for her. I feel the same way about Trump. Voting for Hillary because she's "not Trump" isn't a good enough reason for me. Neither is voting for Trump because he's "not Hillary." I can't trust either one of them, and I refuse to case a ballot for someone I can't trust or even like.

Who says a replacement arena is needed? Is rhe zoo going to be re-located; how could a facility on the edge of the property be considered a "centerpiece?

Be awful hard to accomodate the zoo in less space thsn now used! Anyone consider parking on football weekends?

Re: “Donald the Great

First, almost all the candidates will offer "vague proposals". It's not like it was invented here. Sigh. Second, all candidates offer "misleading statements", or their "facts" if you will (like "I never sent those emails" and "I was careful" and "I only used one device"). Not invented here either.

Would love to see a new, fresh perspective on things (like "why a third party is absolutely a must for this year") versus a tired retread of commentary that was probably plagiarized from 1968 .....

The RNC set a record in Cleveland for porn viewing. That's about all you need to know.

ALJ2, so you don't have an opinion on this column about the RNC? Hold tight, get some sleep, the DNC is nigh. Where with any luck there will be an attempted coup against Hillary and the Committee.

No idea where you get your information from Midtown Mark. But before Beth Wade took over even with the opening of the pyramid the MSC was profitable. She drove away the Riverkings and Wrestling by her mismanagement.

Joan Collins is looking fabulous at 83!

Jennifer Saunders is the funniest human on the planet, except for Stephen Fry. And maybe Vicki Lawrence.

Re: “A Temporary Truce Among Republicans

What a change from when radicals hijacked the Democratic Party and said we don't give a damn that every county in Tennessee voted for George Wallace - we'll vote for whomever we please at the convention. Just a coincidence they suffered one of the worst defeats in American history in the following election.
(And love the comments elsewhere about Trump being a liar because some idiot staffer plagiarized a speech for his wife - so unlike Bill Clinton giving up his law license before it was stripped for his admitted perjury in a legal proceeding while under oath. But you probably believed him when he said he smoked dope but didn't inhale and promised not to raise taxes on the middle class.... And isn't it great how Hillary stood/stands behind him but says she would try to vacate the Constitutional guarantee of presumption of innocence against other men accused of sexual harassment or exploitation (Duke lacrosse team on line 1, Hillz....).)

My assessment of any gay person who is swayed by Trump's LGBTQ statement:
NITWIT

He's gonna spare you from being murdered by Islamists so your rights can be assaulted by Christianists, who are his supporters.

Re: “Coliseum Repair Cost Lower Than Previous Estimate

Bill, the Coliseum was in a death spiral losing millions annually before the FEF even opened. There are far fewer touring groups and events today than there were in the 70's and 80's, the Coliseum's heydey. It's sat vacant because nobody wants to pony up the money to restore it, then have to continually pony up more money just to keep it halfway viable.

Re: “Coliseum Repair Cost Lower Than Previous Estimate

This is a great building. I don't understand why it has sat vacant for so long. The agreement with the Forum was a deathblow for it. That agreement needs to be redone. You have the Landers Center grabbing all sorts of concerts and events and yet it is not much further from the Forum then the coliseum. Too bad we can't move it to Desoto County! It's disgusting to see such a beautiful and historic building going to waste. Hopefully wiser minds can get something done.

Re: “From Sea to Shining Sea ...

Good essay. You definitely triggered a debate. It's amazing how the first reaction is to go on the attack. As if name calling and labeling the author as "liberal" adds anything to the debate.
