Re: “Notes on “Grit and Grind: Burned in a Pale Fire”

I don't really care about the grizzlies, but this was really good.

Re: “NEW UPDATE (More Names Added): More Layoffs Hit The Commercial Appeal

I remember the days of taking theatre press releases to Bob Jennings. And waiting on edge for our play reviews. And if you had a really nice party, it might get a write up and photo. No such humanity presently graces the columns.

Re: “Notes on “Grit and Grind: Burned in a Pale Fire”

Kevin, you, Matt, and Chris are my Grizz breakdown holy trinity. That being said, all three of you take this stuff a bit too seriously. I don't really care how the Grizz culture affects society and the future of mankind. Just wanna breakdown of how we can possibly win our first round series (confindent you three writers could give me the best content on that matter). You guys won't; however, and seem lost in some game to both one-up and pat eachothers back as you wax poetic about the intricacies of the Grizz culture, grit n grind era, blah, blah

Re: “Down by the Riverside

@TJones

Strait is right. Were there a mass transit system that I could drive to, safely leave my car, and be deposited close to the riverfront, I would be a regular user. Lots to do and see down there.

But since there isn't, I will admit that My suburban attitude requires me to be able to park close.

It is also true that my entertainment money has the same suburban attitude.

Re: “NEW UPDATE (More Names Added): More Layoffs Hit The Commercial Appeal

Glenn Munson,
We have lots of newspapers across North Mississippi. If we need news from outside of our small towns, state and local news, we will miss the big boys. I assume the small town papers still exist because they don't have to provide excessive profit for corporations who couldn't find us on the map if they knew how to read one.
Capitalism is chewing up and spitting out American news.

Re: “Down by the Riverside

There are 40,000 parking spaces downtown. Parking is not an issue unless you have the suburban attitude that you should be able to drive and park in front of every destination.

Re: “Down by the Riverside

"Do you notice any parking lots in Central Park NYC, Grant Park Chicago or any other urban park in a major city? Walk or bike you fat, lazy people!"

There is a ton of parking in Grant Park. They have a commuter rail line and train station in Grant Park too. At the cost of hundreds of millions of dollars, they have built a park over the top of all of them.

Half of NYC doesn't even have a car as they have great public transportation. less need to park - especially at NYC prices . Oh my.

Best wishes to Phil Stukenborg. He's been covering local sports for the CA since I was in high school (over 30 years ago)! :(

Thank God we still have:

1.) The Memphis Flyer
2.) The Daily News
3.) The Memphis Business Journal
4.) The Tri-State Defender

Support your local journalists. It's a freedom thing.

Does Gannett own ALL of the newspapers in Tennessee? It sounds dangerously close to that. Good thing we have the Flyer to give us actual news.

Re: “NEW UPDATE (More Names Added): More Layoffs Hit The Commercial Appeal

It was only a matter of time. We basically have one newspaper for the entire state and most of Mississippi as well. I've gotten tired of skipping over half the copy because it's East Tennessee human interest stories or sports. And most of the rest is like reading USA Today. No local hs sports or student stories. Well, guess I read something different in the mornings. Best wishes to those who lost their jobs. We will miss you all.

Did Gannett screw them out of their severance?

Re: “New Plan for Commercial Appeal To Be Unveiled Wednesday

Read the full text of the message from the publisher of the Tennessean, who is also the president of Gannett's Tennessee network. She could benefit from the work of a good copy editor.

The paper is not getting better but worst.

Re: “Tubby Smith: "Learning Experience"

With the way this season fell apart, it only makes next season that much more important. Tubby MUST be able to get the quality players we need, while continuing to develop the players we currently have. Dedric Lawson should return if he really wants to develop into an NBA-caliber player. He's just not ready yet. Once again, the potential is there...and it seemed as though we were on the cusp of a really good season this year. Then, it just all fell apart. I love my Tigers, and here's hoping next year is the beginning of a return to national prominence.

A: You.

Donahue?? He's an institution!

That's the end of the CA for me. The absolute death knell. If I need to know something from the CA I'll ask someone who still subscribes to look it up for me.

If I can find anyone.

great

Getwell and Cooper are in pretty desperate shape.

Hopefully they will get utility companies to do their work BEFORE they repave. ... planning is good
