"Math Errors in the Holy Bible"

Thirty years ago, Bob Collins was a fundamentalist Christian studying at a seminary when things didn’t add up.

According to Collins, it was the “Thou Shalt Not Kill” commandment in the Bible that brought him up short. Not killing was fine and all, but the Bible was otherwise filled with God’s exhortations to do just that. The contradiction led Collins to quit the seminary and to ultimately become an atheist.

Collins is now a computer programmer in Birmingham, Alabama, and a devotee of the Freethought movement. He’s currently working on his book 100 Bible Math Mistakes and will be discussing his findings Sunday at an event hosted by the Memphis Freethought Alliance.

Collins says he’s found way more than 100 errors so far and that the book will focus on the most egregious errors. One example: Jesus rising from the dead in three days and three nights. Collins counts out Friday and Saturday and notes that Sunday was when Jesus was resurrected and that’s two nights max.

Collins isn’t trying to convert anybody. Instead, he says his work is a sort of Consumer Reports for religion. “I help people be better informed,” he says, “and not just take someone’s word as fact.” — Susan Ellis

Some apologetics arguments:

1. One night for the Son of God is the equivalent of 1.5 nights for you or me.
2. God is more powerful than mathematics.
3. Are you saying that people in the first century were liars?
4. The fool hath said in his heart, yadda yadda yadda...

For an atheist, I write pretty good apologetics.

The gibberish and childish idiotic stories in the Bible are the best possible advertisement for atheism.

Mr. Collins errs in thinking there are errors in Scripture. Perhaps he should be better informed before writing about a subject he has yet to understand.

Matthew 22:29
But Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, not understanding the Scriptures nor the power of God.

Errors in the bible. That's like making fun of a one-year-old child for not being able to talk.

Really, EastCoastCommentator? You use another passage from your false book to illustrate how mistaken Collins is?

How about responding to Collins' claim that the bible erred in the number of nights Jesus lay dead before he was turned into a zombie? Perhaps you have some explanation for why your 'infallible' bible got the math wrong?

Your tactic is simply absurd. It's like having someone show you a CAT scan proving you have brain damage and you respond by saying no, I don't have brain damage because I spell noe wright!

No doubt it depends on which translation is being analysed. There's always some flim-flam excuse available when you put you faith into the bible.

How did Judas die? One of the gospels says he hung himself, another gospel says he bought a field and threw himself on it and his guts spilled out everywhere and it was later called the field of blood.

So which is it?? Did he hang himself or did he jump to his death- you cannot have both.
