Cardell and Tom Jones are full of it. The RFP process was rigged from the beginning. I was involved in the process and sat through all of the presentations of the vendors that were involved in presenting their proposals at the library. Linx consulting's presentation was by far the weakest and it was obvious from the start that they would get the job when they started tossing A C's name around. Throw in an appearance by Bobby White - who only sat though Cardell and Tom's presentation and the whole committee knew the fix was in. Originally Linx's cost was twice what the others were and for a less user-friendly and functional site. The best product was presentated by an outside company that recently redesigned the county's web site - Civicsplus. The City - once again - will lose money because "friends" were selected/hired for the job and not the best product. Bank on it.
Said Cashiola: "If they wanted to reapply to work for the MPD, they certainly could."
Wow. Really? How nice. They worked up the ranks for 26 years and get fired without cause but, hey, you can reapply and start all over as a police recruit in your 50's if you really want to work again for the MPD.
Swanky's is awful. I am all for eating local but only if it is good and worth my dollar. Chipotle is the BOMB! Fresh, fresh, fresh and that corn salsa is divine!
I think the MPD is off limits in regards to layoffs however I have heard that the MPD is supposed to cut their budget by 10% or more.
The Barksdale has a killer chocolate chess pie - make sure you ask them to make it hot. And for a great key lime pie I always go to the Half Shell.
Operation Safe Community? I don't remember seeing that group out fighting crime. A C should have given credit where credit is due - Director Godwin and Blue CRUSH.
I have been with the City over 25 years and have witnessed my gay co-workers being harassed at work by co-workers and supervisors numerous times. The harassment ranged from slurs and nasty comments to religious tracts being left on their desks or emailed to them. Upper management did next to nothing to the harassers. Yes, there are some of us who stood up against this harassment which fortunately as younger folks joined my department hs lessened - they seem to be so much more attuned to live and let live.
I agree with mad-merc - It is time for a domestic partnerships to be recognized by the City with full benefits. It is ridiculous that a gay man who has worked for the City for 25 years can not leave his pension to his partner of 20 years yet I can marry someone today, die tomorrow, and they get my full benefits!
