So glad you visited downunder Memphis Flyer to sample the album. You are right. He sure can sing. I think Guy may have been actually been a Memphian in a former life. He has been Australia's little secret for 4 years now. Apart from the release of his 1st album in New Zealand and Asia(and very successfully too) Guy has been hidden away here by his record company. Memphis just may help to change all that. This album deserves a much wider market than we can supply.
Thank you Memphis Flyer for once again putting up the link to Guys' blog. Hope you do that interview when he comes back to Memphis. He should have some good stories to tell about his experiences with the Memphis musicians who worked on this album with him. Can't wait to get my hot little hands on this cd.
Thanks Possum for your input. As already stated we really do miss him back here, and it is great to hear from people in Memphis about what he has been up to. And thanks so much attictones for clearing up the reason for Guy not getting back to The Flyer. His fans know he would never be rude like that. It is just not in his nature.
Verdict on Guy by one of the American singers doing backup vocals on this album, taken from the Ardent Studio forum..... "it went GREAT!! That Guy Sebastian has got IT in strides! He reminds me of a blend of Sam Cooke and a modern day/urban version of Nat King Cole. He's a singing star for real"...... Like his fans in Australia have always known, this Guy is special.
Thanks for putting up the link Memphis Flyer. Sorry your music writer was not able to interview Guy. If he had he would have found him to be an extremely accomodating, polite young man. He has been called the nicest person in the Australian music industry by many in our media. And he loves to talk, especially about music, so perhaps it was a time factor. It doesn't sound like Guy at all, so perhaps your music writer spoke to someone else. I would have loved to read the interview so it is a real shame it turned out that way. He is like a kid in a candy shop at the moment, doing what he is doing. He has such a deep love and respect for Memphis Soul. Don't judge him to harshly because of the limited time he has here.
My apologies to Curry Weber for misspelling his name in my last comment.
Another update from the Guy forum at Ardent Studios. This time from John Fry:

"Well, it's been an amazing session. First of all, Guy is such a nice person and so easy to work with. Second, he has an amazing producer in Steve Cropper and is backed by an amazing band including Stax veterans like Steve, Duck Dunn, and Lester Snell along with other Memphis musicians like Steve Potts (current drummer for Booker T. & the MGs and cousin of the late Al Jackson, Jr.) Rick Steff, and Dave Smith. They are now moving on the backing vocals and horns.
Guy seems to be really into the Memphis history and tradition, and it was my pleasure to take Guy and his video crew through the Stax Museum of Americal Soul Music on Sunday.
Obviously, we are all having a great time. Send us some more folks from "down under".".
Haven't got any more down under like Guy I am afraid. He is one in 20 million. I hope people in the USA push to get this record released here. Guy is working with legends. They would not be working with him if they did not think he was worthy. This album is going to be pure magic. You need to hear it too. Not just Australia.
Hi again Memphis Flyer. Here is a comment on the music forums at Ardent Studios by an American involved in the making of Guys' soul album
"this record is going to be killer......we've got 11 songs with basic tracks done. we're goin 16 track analog baby WOOOO!!!!!!! i think horns are comin tomorrow... Very Happy"

"i've been on a record since thursday that has opened my eyes on record making. 16 track analog, steve cropper on guitar, lester snell on piano and wurly, duck dunn and dave smith on bass, rick steff on b3, steve potts on drums...and guy sebastian on vocals. it is an unbelievable combination of talent and skill. guy is a killer vocalist and he is right at home with these guys and these tunes. he's doing all old stax and hi songs with some motown and muscle shoals mixed in....it is great and i am damn lucky to be pushing buttons and turnin knobs on this thing. WOOOO!!!!!!!.....go buy some good music NOW!!!"

"I couldn't help but over hear a bit of the recordings through the studio door! It sounds great. I think we are all excited about this record. Can't wait to hear the finished product."
This album is going to be so special. I hope America gets to hear it too.
