So Mata blames Southland...and Southland blames West Memphis..and the riders themselves. Now a few days later both Southland and Mata try and throw West Memphis under the bus. Still no straight answers..and no explanations as to WHY there were no notices or new maps about the route changes put out by MATA for the past few months and why the Mata board is being kept out of the loop on this?. People have the right to know where a bus is going before they get on it....plain and simple. This is alot of spin and for some reason they are all hiding something. Let's see what West Memphis says.....
Keep those calls and emails going. It makes difference.
UPDATE-As of today we have learned that MATA is now dropping off folks at an abandoned gas station that is MUCH closer to Southland and does not make riders walk down the side of a dangerous stretch of road. This is good as the safety of the riders is our chief concern. Still this does not answer any of the questions we raised and thus until there is openness and transparency there is no guarantee that this situation will not once again turn into a dangerous one.
I agree. In fact the recent changes to the 50 poplar sound great on the surface. "more busses during peak hours." However we also have concerns that the price of that increased service during peak hours means reductions at night. The last thing we want is folks left at the terminal waiting for a bus that no longer comes. So we are also trying going to be doing outreach to alert customers of these changes to avoid problems while fighting for more services. It's not all or nothing as some would have us believe.
Also...Betty I think you are trying to divert attention away from the issue. The issues here is WHY was Mata banned from the property. WHY were members of the MATA board not made aware of this? WHY has MATA for the past two months not posted ANY notices or new route guides about the change so Riders would know before they got on the bus? WHY is MATA charging for a Route to West Memphis that is not free like the others? WHY?
As for the GAS TAX...the BRU was promoting it's support for the GAS TAX since Early August when the membership voted on it.
West Memphis does pay for the West Memphis routes.
Full disclosure. Betty Anderson is a private contractor for MATA.
Why not simply drop folks off on Ingram. The walk would be much shorter and much safer. I am wondering if the reason for why Mata was banned was so embarrassing that they are making other mistakes in an effort for the administration to save face. Again..even the MATA board was unaware of this when we first brought it up to their members.
