The gas scooter comment missed the point of the peddle assit hybrid notion. You still get the exercise with the help of electric assist. This provides the range of gas with a foot print to NO Measurable Footprint. Using the help over inclines is also welcomed by the older bike rider. The obvious advantage is NO Registration needed in most states this is viewed as a bike.
Sure you can use it as a motor only but that is not the purpose or design of a pedal assist. These bikes have been around for almost 40 years in various forms. It is just recently that they make sense because they are out of the box and work. Yes there are kits for under $600 and this unit could be considered overpriced but with warranty it might well be a bargin. bob
