Re: “Beale Street Will Ban Guns

Personally, I'd settle for a pat-down every time I walked into a bar on Beale if it cuts down on the chances for bullets to start flying.

No problem with gun ownership, but as I mentioned in my own blog today (http://tinyurl.com/lcpqz4), the combination of weapons and alcohol just seems too much of a risk for people who just want to listen to or play some music...

Re: “Is Downtown a Potemkin Village?

Interestingly enough, I posted a similar blog last night (http://tinyurl.com/np8pz7). I had high hopes for downtown when I moved back to Memphis in 2007. Now I worry it will wind up a mix of empty old building and empty new buildings.

Re: “More on Nashville and Memphis Riverfronts

How about a permanent concert facility in Tom Lee Park and turning Mud Island over to developers for some other use?

Re: “News of Ford Sr.-Cohen Alliance Hits Herenton Campaign With a Wallop

This will be an interesting contest, if the mayor goes through with it. I have to wonder whether Dr. Herenton would be satisfied with the role of junior Congressman after decades as mayor and superintendent.

I believe the race, if it proceeds, will be divisive and ugly, and play to the worst parts of blacks and whites in the Ninth District. Which is the last thing we need around here.
