What the flip Chris? Where have you been for the past two months?
Chad Ford says that the Grizz are enamored with Luke Babbit and he has them picking him with their lottery pick. Say it ain't so...
Mister T, the Rubio argument still doesn't justify the Thabeet pick for two reasons.
First of all, I believe Rubio would have been in a Grizzlies uniform had we taken him at 2. His draft position made his buyout situation much more complicated, as his draft slot wouldn't pay him enough money to cancel out the buyout. Being picked at 2 would have covered it and then some.
Secondly, Rubio wasn't the only better option than Thabeet. Any one of those guards (Evans, Harden, Curry) would have completely solidified our three guard rotation for the future. Instead, we ended up with a backup C who isn't ever going to be better than Marc Gasol and are looking at a bunch of scrub guards on the FA market.
The only (somewhat) valid argument for the Thabeet pick is the possibility of Marc Gasol walking in 2011, which sadly is a distinct possibility. We are royally screwed if he leaves, because if Thabeet is starting in two years, it's most likely going to get ugly around here.
Ronald Tillery has a new post on the Memphis Edge about trades that didn't go through.
Here's something that just killed me: Miami offered Beasley for #2 and Chalmers for #27. Why the hell do we still have Thabeet and Carroll again? Who in the right mind would decline a deal like that. It gives us our PF of the future and a GREAT backup PG. *sigh* Only in Memphis.
Robert Dozier = the only thing positive about this horrid night.
Great post Chris. I really want to see B-Easy in Beale Street Blue. I also think a Bosh/#2/Beasley deal would be a win-win-win trade and I really hope it comes up in trade talks before draft day.
Rubio sure as hell isn't going back to Spain now, no matter who drafts him. He is suing his team to terminate his contract and to get a smaller buyout. There's no going back now Ricky, hope you like BBQ.
Enough already. If Rubio doesn't want to come to Memphis, trade up or out of the damn pick. I don't want to hear about Thabust, Harden, Curry, or anyone else, because coming out of the draft with only one of those players mentioned would be a massive disappointment.
I want Memphis to either take Rubio and keep him (which is seeming less and less likely each day), trade up for Griffin (something like a Rubio/Gay for Griffin/Davis swap) or trade the pick for that star PF that we have been dying for (i.e. some variation of a deal that lands us Michael Beasley, gives Phoenix/Toronto Rubio, and gives Miami Bosh/Stoudemire).
Any other outcome is going to be a huge letdown to me, especially taking Thabeet at 2. That would just be ridiculously idiotic.
