I watched his brother, Vanilla, play and he was dunking like there was no tomorrow.
Pissed away the #2 pick on manute bol. Yep, thats a good one. Heisley couldn't recognize bball talent if it was handed to him. Grizz will be working on manute thabeet for the next 3 years to improve his backup game.
Great column, Chris and also great writing. I have to think the buck stops at the top and that is Heisley. Like you clearly said, he needs to step down his self appointed Chiefdom and either sell the franchise or let someone more basketball savvy take the lead in making decisions. Iverson was a gimmick signing meant to last for one year and sell some tickets. The problem was that in order for it to work you have to play the guy even if he is clearly delusional about his importance. Heisley has made some really bad bonehead moves in this signing and the drafting of Thabeet, clearly one of the worst picks of all time when you consider it was such a high draft pick. I think anyone with any basketball sense knew that was a terrible pick from the beginning. Chris Wallace like you said is either totally irrelevent or complicit to all the bonehead moves as well. I think his career as a GM is finished after this debacle.
I like AI as a player and a great competitor but to start his soap opera on the first game back after an injury is ludicrous if not hilarious. He got 18 minutes. The medical staff told Hollins to not let him go over 20 minutes. Maybe no one in the coaching staff told AI this? You would think this would come up before a game. But again you would think that they would brought up being a 6th man during those contract negotiations too. Who knows. It may be just as Chris says that this is just a case of the owner doing what he wants without any regard to common sense.
Well said L3E. Wish I still lived in Mempho then I would get season tickets but alas I live 7 hours away. Can't wait for that first game against Detroit, AI's former team!! Man, the forum will be rockin' for that game!!!
It is Conley or die for Heisley. He passed on so many capable guards in this year's draft to chase his ever elusive dream center.
I agree with Grizzle. Even though Rubio is staying in Spain for two more years he STILL would have been a better pick than Thabust who we can only hope will play as well as Shawn Bradley. Rubio will have two years to develop and MN can either wait for him to come over if Flynn flames out or trade his rights and get another really good player of equal appeal or value. With Thabust the Grizz can only pray the guy doesn't look too friggin awful as to unload the guy to another team in a few years for a high first rounder and cash considerations or what is more likely the backup center ala Darko. From reading those twits you wonder if this guy somehow thinks he will be the next Olajowon which is laughable as his play in the SL was more accurate to be the next Manute Bol. I truly hope Thabeet develops into a respectable center and I can recant my words but at this time he is looking like one of the worst picks of the draft of ALL time.
